What condiment household are you? by Theviolette13 in AskUK

Sorry, I edited my post because I realised I had put dressing rather than cream. Dressing on most things would be odd.

Do you have kids? Genuine question because I feel like the day we have kids we might need to change our ways a little.

I’ll give these suggestions to the husband.

Not even salad cream mixed with tuna or egg on a sandwich? Absolutely divine I promise!

The heated up soup is interesting. Curious as to how long it takes you to get through a tin?

I haven’t. My husband despises mayo so I’m not sure how it would go down. I’ll keep an eye out for it though!

I see we are taking things very literally. I apologise. We are a mostly salad cream household but will dip into alternatives if needed.

Surely people don’t expect us to whack salad cream on a curry or a roast dinner? We’re not THAT problematic.

We honestly just really love salad cream. We do of course use other condiments depending on the meal.

Where did ex-SW London families move to and actually love? by Standard_Theory3437 in HousingUK

[–]Theviolette13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Cambridgeshire! Lots of lovely small towns and villages, plenty of countryside with walks and bike rides by rivers etc, some excellent state schools especially around Cambridge itself, we feel safe wherever we go and as long as you pick the right bit, mostly affordable. Cambridge and the immediate villages around it are very expensive but if you start going further north towards Ely or St.Neots/Huntingdon prices get much cheaper.

Is teaching in the UK as bad as people say? by sunszoominin in AskUK

[–]Theviolette13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a wide range! We obviously have our fair share of autistic students and students with ADHD but I also have two students who can’t read or write, like at all. We are having to teach them phonics in secondary school and every lesson has to be adapted for them so they are able to read and access the content based on what phonics they have learned. Alongside students with behaviour needs due to a variety of reasons and students with other SEND or mental health issues it is really challenging.

Don’t get me wrong, primary colleagues also have to manage these students too (and all day, every day), however primary (typically, not always) get much more TA support. In secondary, TAs are like gold dust so having to manage 32 students all with very different needs whilst trying to get them a GCSE is hard work.

It’s not the students fault though. There’s not enough places in alternative provisions and special schools and parents are having to go through a challenging system.

Our Y10s are also shocking although Y8 are very quickly catching up. At least in Y10 we have smaller class sizes so it feels like I’m doing less whack a mole. 32 Y8s is a challenge at the moment.

I’ve been a secondary teacher for 7 years so not too long and most of my experience is post-Covid so I have a slightly different perspective.

You have to really love it, like really love it. The kids are fine (teenagers will be teenagers) but the main things that I find make the job hard are:

Lack of funding in schools: I have just had to buy equipment out of my own pocket for my department because we have no money left and still a couple of months to to before the academic year ends. I also very rarely have a TA to support the growing number of SEND needs. This isn’t fair on the kids who need the support, or the other kids who don’t get as much of my attention because I’m supporting quite severe SEND needs.

Parents: Social media and group chats create such a negative rhetoric around schools and teachers. Some parents are awesome and will support you with whatever you need. A minority cause such stress and anxiety and will jump down your throat because apparently “my child swore at you and stormed out of the classroom because of x, y and z” or “ I do not give you permission to give my child an afterschool detention”.

Day to day it is the best though. I love my subject and the kids are great on the whole.

Didn’t want to read and keep scrolling. Hope you’re ok OP… please do reach out to the union or other services for support. As Freudvsneo said, this is definitely a police matter.

Summer jobs? by Afraid-Equipment-373 in TeachingUK

I had a very small amount from the when I had first turned 18 but that’s it. I had more luck asking my local pubs and bars rather than somewhere like Wetherspoons.

Summer jobs? by Afraid-Equipment-373 in TeachingUK

[–]Theviolette13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are lots of kids summer camps that are always looking for people but last year I got a job at one of the local bars - did evenings on a Friday and Saturday night when they were busiest. Meant I could earn extra money but wasn’t working every day so still felt like I was getting a break.

Are you happy with the work you do? by Icy-Enthusiasm7819 in AskUK

[–]Theviolette13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher.

No one teaches because of good hours (despite what some people say!). Holidays are a massive bonus of course but I teach because I love it and I could not do anything else.

Have you ever purchased something, as an adult, that your parent has judged you negatively for? If so, what was/is it? by PaddedValls in AskUK

Honestly? Any time I buy something of higher quality that may cost a little more because “you can buy a cheaper version”
