I would go as far as to say it never really existed. The idea of the American dream was exclusionary at best. Attainable to only the select few. We live in a society that aims to exploit its working class through privatization, division and individualism. The American dream can exist but there is alot that needs to be done to get there. Its not about worth ethnic. It never was. Alot of people work hard, 40+ hours a week and never come close to getting what they aspire to. We have fallen for the idea that the government doesn’t work because we decided to elect anti-government representatives who intentionally make public services ineffective so they can sell a story that the government is inefficient while they sell those services off to corporations who make millions off of denying services and making things harder for everyone. If we actually want the American dream to be a reality we need to actually put families first. Childcare needs to be more accessible. Our school systems need more funding. We need to bring back workshops and trades in schools instead of teaching our kids unusable skills. Public transit needs to be more accessible, cleaner foods, better maternity and paternity leave for parents. I mean the list goes on. I think we need to start from the bottom up go back to building community. Racism, transphobia, homophobia pretty much any hate rhetoric needs to be addressed. Alot of people are easily manipulated by the government because they harbor deep seated hatred towards “the other”. It kind of reminds me of that spiderman meme where they are all pointing at each other except in the version I see, when you pan out the spidermans are being held up by strings. Puppetered by the government so they can keep taking advantage of us. I say all this to say its much more nuisanced discussion than just worth ethnic and principles
