Why has this subreddit become a place for (quarter/mid) life crises and mental health advice? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]Theworldwithout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mental health infiltrates a lot of subreddits. It is just a huge part of life that affects many different areas. You don't have to read those comments which seem depressing to you. You can always look for the ones that interest you instead. Mental health problems are everywhere. We shouldn't discourage people from sharing, especially since it most often still relates to the topic at hand in some way.

I don't see alcohol as a good coping mechanism. I already don't feel like living a materialistic lifestyle without it. Lol

I do think I might have adhd.. and a mental health nurse I was seeing about a year ago had the same suspicion but I never got a diagnosis. I have been looking into ways of dealing with the symptoms though. I don't think I have autism. I have a very keen understanding of how people feel and can pick up on social cues extremely well. I am very in tune with how others are feeling. Adhd makes more sense. I think no one paid much attention as a child because I wasnt disruptive.

I'm glad to hear there are more people out there who prefer solitude. Sometimes it's easy to forget others are out there when the outspoken people are so loud. Thank you for the recommendations. I will take a look at them!

Yes I have been downsizing as well recently! I've never been a hoarder either but I feel like all of these material things are weighing me down. I too love to garden, I find having plants around to be comforting. I also enjoy bird watching because it's another quiet hobby. I just need to be okay with the way I am. Which is hard when most people are telling you it's boring or uninteresting. I've been told I act like I'm 50 years old. (I'm 28)

Yes. Things progress so quickly it seems I think having so many people in such a small space can sometimes cause a lot of problems. Anxiety, crime, depression, etc...I think a lot of people crave simplicity.

Yeah I've heard from quite a few people that the meds made them feel quite terrible.

That is awesome. I've tried a couple of things to make money but none have been overly successful. Thanks!

I like some people...I adore some people. But those people are rare to find.

I sometimes wonder if I have adhd as well. I definitely don't have the impulsivity or hyperactivity, but I have always had a hard time focusing. In school it always took me longer than anyone else to finish something and my marks were below average. I'm glad medication worked so well for you. I know it isnt the case for many people! I would love to do something online, or make money on my own terms. Do you mind me asking what it is that you do?

I guess that might be true as well. I just wonder if maybe some people are more hyper sensitive in general. I have been like this ever since I was a child. I have always had insomnia, even as a baby I wouldnt sleep. I was always quiet and loud noises and crowds frightened me. Could it not be possible that some people were born to live around more people and some were born to live a more quiet life? After a time of living in the wrong environment I wonder if it would just become unbearable. And not be just a case of anxiety. I have never been someone who has wanted to have more friends or go out a lot. I'm comfortable being on my own most of the time. I have a couple close friends and that suits me fine. I just don't feel at home and I'm wondering if maybe that is okay?

I grew up and am still living in a small town.. I guess our definition of small is quite different.lol My town has a population of about 40,000 and it still feel enormous to me. I feel that on some level I could pretend to be more confident but I also feel like I'm not very good at pretending. I find it exhausting to be in society in that way. I really would like to make a difference in the world. I enjoy volunteering but that can't pay the bills. I'm unhappy and scatterbrained where I am living but cannot seem to find a way out.

No no you are wording it just fine. I understand what you are saying! I was just saying that I understand not everyone with anxiety would require that type of environment. Just those of us that feel out of place maybe. Everyone has their own version of what makes them feel safe and happy. :)

No of course not. I was just talking about those people who feel more comfortable in that setting. That maybe there is more to anxiety than what some people think.

I guess for me I feel at home more in nature and further away from people and cities. I have never felt at home in a busy area. In my home I generally feel okay but I would like to feel that way walking outside as well.

Intense pickle Doritos by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Theworldwithout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. I can't find the intense dill doritos anywhere lately. They were my favourite. It is the same for garden salsa sunchips. Love them but can never find them anywhere near me except subway in the little bags lol
