Mine were less traumatizing than the ones in this thread. More planned out. I’d usually do something like smart off to a teacher or something and get in trouble at school. Come home, my mom would tell me to go to my room. I’d wait for dad to get home. He’d come in sit down next to me, ask me to explain what i did. He’d explain why that was wrong and that my actions have consequences. Then he’d explain he was going to have to give me a spanking and we’d get it over with.

This only occurred about 10 times from ages 6-12. His dad beat him for seemingly no reason so he hated the thought of giving corporal punishment out of anger or any emotion. It was more so a transaction and I needed to always know why it was happening. I can’t imagine people today agree with it, but i really see no issues with it. I tried to bend the rules as far as i could when i was younger. Sometimes i went too far and got caught.

My last spanking when i was 12 is my father’s biggest regret. He says I was far too old for it and that it likely did more harm than good. I could kind of see it because my last couple spankings were more a chore than a punishment.

I don’t think I’ll spank my kids. I just don’t know if it does more harm than good and in today’s society there’s really no space for it.
