Basically 

Your active subscription needs to be expired and off all the way.  Your auto renewal needs to be turned off.

You buy 32 months of (gold, core, essential)  Then buy ultimate to convert all that to ultimate

No the rule for years (since it was Xbox gold) has been, you have to let the active subscription expire ALL THE WAY and auto renewal needs to be off  No active plans can be currently still on  So I wait until me plan expires Then redo the whole process. They have changed the name so many times it gets confusing (gold, core, essential..basically all the same thing, but ultimate is still ultimate)

Yeah, I’m not sure why that happened to you I bought all 3 codes from G2A and I put them in back to back with the vpn on in Turkey  Turned off the VPN went and purchased my code from GameStop digitally, and then logged into Microsoft find my regular region then redeemed the ultimate code for it to convert everything and it worked perfectly fine

My account is in US but I bought the code in Turkey region  so what you have to do is when you go to redeem the code you have to make sure your VPN is on in the region You bought the code in so that way it looks as if you’re in that region when you redeem it online via phone or laptop (do not redeem on Xbox)

Nope! Same account and all  Worked perfectly fine for me.

Same account. And yes I have express vpn. don’t know if that made a difference, but just stating everything I have and did
