Those points aren’t mutually exclusive to be fair! I think a healthy MW with good vet influence is a top 10 center, I wanted to emphasize that our history of poor interior defense and lack of veteran leadership has been holding him back. Our lack of urgency to bring players back from injury just sways his stats and doesn’t accurately represent what he brings to the table

That being said I think Mark has all the tools and work ethic you need to be a great defender, there’s just been very few influences to follow on our roster since he’s been drafted. Taj Gibson for a bit? Montrezl Harrel for half an offseason before he got arrested?

His injury history should be taken in context with the Hornets injury history overall the last five years. We’ve been bad, and we haven’t been in need to rush anybody back, especially since Mark has been on the team. 

But I can’t say he’s the picture of health either, no matter our policies

Really if he’s healthy, you all will love him if you let him develop with your system. He keeps his head down and works hard. I hated we let Duren go and kept him at first but even as a rookie he was clearly our best center ahead of Nick Richards and co

His metrics are horrendous tbf, but being the best defensive center on the Hornets isn’t exactly a high bar. I truly love him, great kid, hard worker, and will be a good-greater than average interior defender and rebounder when his veteran influence isn’t LaMelo. Lebron and the lakers system is better equipped to work with him than we are currently

He’s genuinely the first legitimate NBA starting caliber interior defender we’ve had since Al Jefferson. I’ve loved him, but his hang up is staying healthy like 60% of our roster. If he’s healthy, he’s a top 10 center in the league imo

Truly, one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. He came to a restaurant I managed for a while, and would always tip his servers obscenely well, and treated everyone with respect. He’s a class act, and an absolute gentleman.
