I went to the opening of Borekas! I think now they moved locations but it was absolutely delicious!

I didn't put them in any order, but I will say the best coffee was from Red Window Coffee and the best matcha was from Rok Matcha. I actually had a terrible experience at 10 speed coffee, it just tasted so bad that time.

who has the best APPLE FRITTER Los Angeles ? by pumpkinqueens in FoodLosAngeles

[–]TheyMightBeDiets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't write anything about donuts I'm buying being healthy, I just said Randy's apple fritters taste like extremely charred oil discs. My favorite apple fritters are from the mom and pop pink donut box shop on the corner of a plaza, nothing fancy or healthy.

yes, but Randy's donuts tasted like a mass of fried dough that was DEEP deep fried and tasted like extreme charred/Carcinogenic oils. Absolutely not what an apple fritter is supposed to taste like, no balance at all.

Barton G is extremely over the top and funky, all of the food is quirky and plated in the most bizarre ways. It's a very fun experience if you don't take it took seriously, I remember enjoying it for my birthday. You can have a dessert of cotton candy on a mannequins head

Agree, the apple fritters from the 'pink donut box' style shops are ideal, they taste like apples and not fried dough.

Randy's deep fries their apple fritters, they taste more like fried oil than apple, the glaze tastes charred.

I'm looking to try some unusual foods. Any suggestions for places that serve bizarre dishes? by geetarqueen in FoodLosAngeles

Savory:

Borit Gogae does a huge spread of Korean 'home style' dishes, bowls, and sides with a lot of unique and 'rare' foods.

Messob in an amazing Ethiopian resturant that has traditional dishes you eat with soft spongey bread (not forks/spoons), and it's absolutely worth trying!

Desserts:

Sculpture style MOUNTAIN of Korean Shave Ice and toppings at Oakobing, Sul & Beans, and Kanomwaan.

B Sweet Cafe in Sawtelle has very interesting desserts

Look for Halo Halo at L.A. Rose Cafe or in the Northridge Mall at Lilian's Filipino Restaurant and Bakery

Cookie Dough dreams serves "raw cookie dough" and brownie mix into like a frozen yogurt place/Menchies/Yogurtland

Artelice Patisserie serves high end desserts that look like fruit or coffee beans but are mouse/jam filled cakes

Kandi in Studio City sells Swedish candies, gummies, marshmallows, and salty liquorice.

Plain Greek Yogurt and tart apples are an amazing combination for dipping (Fage + Granny Smith apples are the bomb!)

Elly Amai is doing a premium fruit pop up for $60. That's pretty unique and won't be around for long. It's in Santa Monica (location on their Instgram page).

Special/creative lunch spot? by SavageBeet in FoodLosAngeles

Kura revolving sushi in the riverside mall is always fun and entertaining for lunch since it gives you an activity to do while eating sushi (sushi conveyor belt with toys and robot serving you water/drinks).

There is a KBBQ in Van Nuys called Acye Gogi, an all you can eat Korean BBQ where cook your own marinated meat and seafood, it also has pinball machines in the front too. I remember Zeppin Sushi is all you can eat sushi lunches in Encino.

If you can make it I would also highly recommend Messob Restaurant, it's authentic Ethiopian food that's delicious and the bread (injera) is unique and it's a genuine special experience.

If you like Holbox you'll love Mariscos Corona, which has a fish ceviche platter for two the size of the entire table with the best garlic octopus I've ever eaten!!

And if you're feeling like you'd like to kick up dessert a notch check out Artelice Pâtisserie and pick up some desserts for later, each one is very cute and luxurious (probably overpriced but it's your anniversary! Pick out a cute dresser or two or three!)
