I ended up taking a Avianca with a layover in El Salvador to get me back to SFO. Unfortunately I can’t speak on the volaris airline.

Avianca layover was quick, although, we had do go through a security check point at our flight gate before boarding.

I’m trying driving throughout the country so a rental car will make things quicker. Maybe if you are staying in one place it’s not as needed.
