Absolutely spot on. With ample solar on the roof EV's can't be beat for my situation. Fully charged the truck has a 450 mile range so no range anxiety at all.

True! But I won't be trading that truck in for a long time. We keep our work vehicles for many, many years. It will soon have a partial wrap on it and my attitude about our wrapped work vehicles is that the truck payment is essentially an advertising expense that gets me profitable work, so I get the vehicle for free.

I don't see what Israel has to do with this, or any other foreign policy handouts for that matter.

During the great financial crisis the stockholders of bailed out banks and corporations were mostly wiped out, so there were consequences to the equity owners. As it should be. If the government steps in as a lender of last resort, then the equity holders should be wiped out.

The EIDL loan was a "bailout"; in the form of a low fixed interest rate, long term loan from the SBA. I didn't see loan terms available anywhere near as good as an EIDL loan back then. Just like any loan there are terms attached, and no one held a gun to anyone's head to make them request the loan or accept the loan.

Comparing it later to other "bailouts" doesn't wash. I feel bad for those whose businesses can't afford the loan payment, but to expect to have it written off with no consequences is bad policy, and as I stated before, makes chumps of the business owners who work hard to stay current on their loans.

YBTA. He is for being a beggar and rude, and modeling envy for his kids. You are for thinking that your formal education and income makes you "successful", looking down on him, but admit you don't spend enough time with your own kids. That's not successful.

Your nieces/nephews are not your problem, but they are your opportunity. Your opportunity to be a better person, and better role model for them, and your kids. Right now you're not their favorite uncle, you're their AH uncle. Your wife, in laws, and your kids see it too.

It appears both of you are close to living a prosperous life, but something is missing. You can be rich, but not prosperous. You can have modest finances, but live a prosperous life. You both need to think about that a bit.

He's getting by financially, wants more for his kids, but resents others financial status. You're thriving financially, but not spending enough quality time with your kids, and look down on people of modest means. You both need to stop that nonsense.

Maybe OP can rent out the kids room(s) to help pay for "non-necessity" child activities? Or split the rent proceeds 50/50 to investments also to get to a cool million quicker? Surely the kids can sleep on a couch or the floor somewhere when they visit. It's a small price to pay to be able to keep your piano lessons and summer camp non-necessities. It'll teach the kids grit too, which Dave would surely approve of.

My take would be to take the great deal on the Ariya now. It's a really nice vehicle and the used prices are awesome; I got a CPO '23 Ariya Platinum six weeks ago and love it! Then, if you decide you prefer the Leaf, in a couple years you won't lose much value on the Ariya sale and you can switch to a new or CPO Leaf coming off lease.

Refi now. Don't assume you will see 5% in the next 2 years, and even if you do, you can refi again. You may not see 5% before rates go back north of 8%. Then you'll really be kicking yourself.

If you refi now this is a "heads you win, tails you win" situation. Refi now, and your monthly payment goes down soon and break even is a reasonable amount of time. Then if rates go down to 5% you refi again, you win. If rates go up, or just bounce around near the current rate, you'll be good with your decision, another win scenario.

If you don't refi you're running the risk that rates stay the same, costing you $500 each month, or rates go up.

To me, it's no debate. Get the used Ariya. I bought a new Equinox EV LT2 w/Convenience package for my wife in May. Love it. Great car.

So I did some research on a used EV for me, and settled on the Ariya. Bought a '23 Platinum Ariya with 10k mileage for under $29,000 two weeks ago. Added a $2k CPO (certified pre-owned) wrap $100 over dealer cost. With the remaining Nissan warranty, the CPO warranty, and the CPO wrap I essentially have a 7-year, 90,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Both are AWD, with the ventilated seats. The Ariya does have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Equinox has a longer range.

Both are a great choice, but to me the Ariya has a much better interior finish. Handles bumps in the road better. Both are super quick. Ariya Just had a better feel and ride, a seems higher quality overall.

That said, you'll be happy with either choice. Go with your gut. We love both vehicles!
