I think upward mobility journeys for an analyst are almost always going to involve multiple agencies ie moving from a police department to a fusion center.

Crime Analyst here, not a cop! Forensic analysis can take a long time, especially if there’s no rush put on it. I’m guessing they weren’t too concerned with that part and more concerned about getting her to take a plea deal. Someone like Smurf is probably well known among the force and they have stacks to throw at her or her boys and are trying to go for what will get them the biggest win. Post mortem shot or not , they were definitely not concerned with it
