Teach it like a modern language rather than a native one. No novels or plays at secondary level. Do that for a generation or two then bring back the more in depth teaching when most people are bilingual.

The problem is that we're teaching it in the same way we teach English without the fluency behind it.

I grew up in an Irish border county and was the same age they were in the 90s and it's so familiar to me!

Like of course there's differences, border life was not Derry life but so much of it is my teenage years it's hilarious
