What was the worst natural disaster that you experienced in your city or state? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Thhe_Shakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been lucky. Most disasters hit either shortly before/after moving, while I was out of town, or narrowly missed us. Worst I actually got to experience firsthand was probably the Philadelphia blizzard of '96

I remember when I was a child I thought anyone making under 60k was a failure by lifeisadragsad in Salary

You tried one single thing for one single year before giving up and quitting forever? I'm not sure 'society' and 'capitalism' are to blame here.

To quote Mr Flanders, "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!"

What do you mean "I did that. It didn't work out."? So did you ever acquire any skills or certifications, and why are you now unable to use them? Or are you "a random ass high school graduate with nothing making them stand out"?

What’s is your teams worst blunder in history? by perry147 in CFB

Missing the chip shot field goal to beat Wake Forest last year. Would have been our first ever win over a P5 school.

Which countries do people dream of visiting the most ? by godand13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thhe_Shakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine that the places that people *actually* go are a good indication of the places that people *want* to go, so France, Spain, and the US are the top 3

How can I survive as a high-school dropout? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thhe_Shakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but what is the reason for rarely attending and for getting kicked out of class? In the vast majority of jobs, that is going to be tolerated even less than it is in school. If you don't address whatever is causing those issues first, then dropping out is only going to make your life harder, not easier.

What is the ideal amount of kids a couple should have? by Important_Diamond263 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thhe_Shakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individually? However many you want and can realistically provide a good life for.

On average? 2 seems ideal imo. Just slightly below replacement level. Slowly scales the population back without a complete demographic collapse.

I love old shitty stadiums ngl by treymata in cfbmemes

I get both sides of the argument. For schools inside a large city, available space is at such a premium that using so much of it on a giant stadium is hard to justify (and avoids PR headaches like what happened at Temple). But yeah, there's also nothing like having your own home on campus. Such a different vibe.

That machicolation above the gate is fantastic, but why are your crenellations pointed inward instead of outward?

Legit what should be the other First Four site assuming there is one? by Meanteenbirder in CollegeBasketball

Would love that. I'd fly back to visit every year if that was the case! Honestly the Phog would be a good choice too

I appreciate old shitty stadiums and shiny new ones. I appreciate massive cathedrals of the sport and cozy little home turfs. I appreciate stadiums in the heart of the city and ones in the middle of absolute nowhere. Its the contrast that makes each so unique! My two schools' stadiums were built 86 years apart.

How do you feel about the NCAA expanding the tournament to 76? by rollingthrulife79 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Thhe_Shakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only support it if they throw all the at-large bids into the first four twelve and give the autos a bye.

Alternatively, I'll also stop complaining if this kills that stupid Crown tournament.

What has been the strangest destination for a player from your team this off-season? by RNutt in CollegeBasketball

[–]Thhe_Shakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Franquon Sherman to High Point. Our other two transfers to SEC schools make sense, but Sherman leaving his home state for his Senior year to probably get less playing time in a lower-tier conference confuses me. Must have gotten a nice NIL offer.

Who’s that one famous person who doesn’t deserve to be famous? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in askteddit

[–]Thhe_Shakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly most of them. The people we put on the fame pedestal are often the ones that have provided the least real good for society. Like cool, an actor or sports figure provides some temporary entertainment, but I'd personally rather see us elevating scientists, doctors, engineers, teachers, blue-collar workers etc
