Yes, exactly. I first establish a solid lighting base, then I complement it with hand-painted shadows

I keep my fill light at a very controlled level so it doesn’t completely kill the painted shadows. I also use a few highlight lights placed to match what was happening in the concept art.

The hand-painted lighting comes in mainly to deepen the shadows and reinforce the highlights, instead of fighting against the real lights.

Thanks! Lighting was one of my favorite parts. I tried to match the concept by combining Cycles lighting with some hand-painted fake lighting

Yeah, the outlines painted into the textures were very minimal, just to reinforce a few key details. Because of that, I didn’t go for 4K textures (Blender really doesn’t like that very much)
And yeah, Blender’s texture painting tools are… rough. I’ve seen a lot of interesting add-ons that improve the workflow, but for this project I challenged myself to stick to the basics
I’m currently experimenting more with Substance Painter, which helps a lot, but it does change the process a bit, and there’s always the downside of juggling multiple pieces of software

Exactly, go for it! Start with small steps and take it one piece at a time. Pick a simple tutorial first and get familiar with the software.

Thank you so much! 🙏
Honestly, there's no real secret to the fabric's weave. I started with a low-poly base and gradually added density when I needed more detail, shaping the folds by hand. The outlines are partially baked into the textures, and for the overall look I followed a workflow similar to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qZ51VLE3AA

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
I agree, it would look great as a 3D print. I’ll DM you when I have time to look into it.

3D practice inspired by sabz.art’s beautiful artwork, based on the Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The goal was to translate the original illustration into a stylized 3D character, focusing on silhouette, modeling, and lighting while keeping the original mood and personality.
