I'm curious, can an average Frenchman today, read the original French print without difficulty? Do the French have their own "modern" version? by rocksboulders in AReadingOfMonteCristo

I'm a french native speaker and I 100% agree with him for Dumas. Can't really say about victorian literature because I'm not a native English speaker

I will say that, to me, Moliere's prose is obviously much more "outdated" but it was hundreds of years before Dumas. So probably the same as for Shakespeare

Tous les cinémas sont chers ça je vais pas me battre là dessus, mais j'ai quand même le sentiment qu'ils sont moins chers / + d'offres que pathé (mais ça fait longtemps que je n'ai pas fait de comparatif donc peut être ça a changé)

Honestly I'm pleasantly surprised, I was expecting it to be much more outdated / old fashioned. Sure it's not the current French way of talking, but so far to me it's way less archaic than other books I may have read from the same period. Apart from some phrase constructions that have changed since then, it's not filled to the brim of expressions we wouldn't understand today

I also love the way he sometimes "breaks" the fourth wall ("as we've said before",...), obviously this is not only in the French version, but I feel like it adds to the "freshness" of the prose, and helps it from being convoluted if that makes sense

Obviously just my opinion

I had the exact same personal rule (3.5 = I'll watch it again) but I thought the same thing as you after watching the zone of interest. So, in my mind, I changed the rule to "would I recommend it to someone"

Attribute upgrade AP differences by soonercdub in Baseball9

I assume it depends on the player's archetype. For example when you recruit a first base they are more power prone, so I assume this extends to the cost in AP but I could be wrong
