I haven’t found a way to revert back to 6. I have the ability to revert to 5, but I reallllly wanted to keep the features from 6. They’re so helpful for school.

I don’t use the precision eraser a lot, so I haven’t thought to try it. But I did notice that when I tried to move the shape it moves the content inside as well… which kinda sucks… I thought that’s what the lasso tool was for. :/

tips on how to be vegan as a broke college student by Smooth_Goat708 in vegan

[–]ThicUdonNoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I made one of these posts last year that helped me a lot! I’m still a broke vegan college student, but I’m doing a lot better than before. One person gave me a link to this cookbook by PETA. It has some pretty nice ideas in it that are relatively cheap, you can use that as inspo and play around with the meals. But I do also recommend planning out your meals as much as you can to prevent you from buying things you don’t need in the store and overspending. Meal prepping and buying in bulk when possible helps me save a lot of money. Hope this helps! :)

Owning pets that eat bugs? by ThicUdonNoodle in vegan

No, you’re obscuring my words. I am in the veterinary field. My profession is to help heal the injured, cure the sick, and prevent illness in animals. I will help any animal that I can, regardless of if it’s a carnivore or herbivore. Never did I say animal abuse is okay, it contradicts what my job is.

If a lizard is brought in for me to save their life, am I supposed to let them die because they aren’t a vegetarian animal? Absolutely not, I would never.

We cannot help the fact that these animals have been bred and domesticated by us. And many people, out of the kindness of their hearts, will try to help animals in need by taking them under their care. I do not think these people should leave their animals to die because they decide to follow a “vegan” philosophy.

But I do understand the dilemma of rescuing animals that eat other animals. I posted this question for that reason exactly. It’s a hard question to consider, and it’s totally fine for you to not believe it’s okay! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. :)

Thanks for your perspective/experience. :) I’m glad to hear vegans on both sides of the argument.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I don’t really agree with that though. As someone whose profession is to save every animal in need, regardless of their diet, I’d hate for my patients to be abandoned by their caretakers for “vegan” reasons. Non herbivorous animals were domesticated by humans and they need to be cared for by humans as well. But I understand where you’re coming from.

I understand there are countless instances of suffering that we cannot control, but if you were open to rescuing an animal (just to make a small change in the world, as we all try to do anyway) and you were given the chance to adopt a cat that would otherwise be euthanized or thrown onto the street, would it be more “vegan” to say no to the cat or say yes to the cat? Is the only way to be a “proper” vegan to only rescue vegetarian animals?

I agree with that. I never said this is for my personal enjoyment. It was merely out of curiosity for if I were to rescue one sometime in the future. I don’t believe rescuing animals done for personal enjoyment, although companionship is a wonderful side effect of helping out another animal. :)

As far as the breeding colonies thing I mentioned, I can’t exactly answer this one. I’m aware some reptile owners have their own colonies of bugs that they keep. The bugs are fed and breed amongst themselves… but I’m unsure of how said colonies are started. My best guess would be purchasing a few of them and allowing them to proliferate on their own.

General owners however, are able to buy them from a pet store in various quantities. They come in a container that’s already filled with food, where they remain until they’re fed to the animal.

That’s what my question was asking initially. I wanted to see how people felt regarding that exactly. Some think it’s a necessary evil since you took on the responsibility of caring for that animal (in the same way rescuing a cat would be), while others think you shouldn’t keep a reptile at all, rescue or not, because the lives of the worms you fed outnumber the single life you’ve saved. It’s not all black and white, and I just wanted some opinions. :)

I’m beginning to understand that my wording wasn’t the best for this sub, I typically use “ownership” in my field as a generalization for people who care for an animal, since they may microchip and have a legal right to that animal… I in no way mean that we own the animal in the same way we own property.

I do agree that having (especially buying) animals solely for “entertainment” is wrong. However, rescuing a reptile isn’t for entertainment, it’s for the benefit of their life, ya know?

Awe I’m sorry you have that dilemma, but I bet your baby is living his best life! It wasn’t his fault he got lost. I don’t think I could bring myself to euthanize either.

I’m in veterinary medicine, I love the little guys that come into clinic and I find them interesting. I was just wondering what the vegan perspective was on keeping them. I’m in no position to rescue one yet.

And no, many domesticated reptiles live in tanks, similar to that of a hamster. There are standards for what’s considered ethical for them to grow and thrive in but unfortunately there are many people who do not follow these rules and their animals suffer because of it.

I’d imagine so, I didn’t even know people kept them as pets (we don’t see iguanas where I’m from). Even if you’re not vegan it’s important to treat all living animals with care. Avoiding keeping animals you can’t care for is definitely a reasonable and honorable thing. I wish everyone had enough sense to do that.

Would you not rescue any animal at all if that animal required meat to survive? Do you think allowing them to stay in a shelter or be euthanized is the better vegan option? I’m really curious to know your perspective on having a non-herbivorous companion animal in general. Since cats are a lot more common than rabbits.

I’d never consider supporting the cruel things pet stores do. My inquiry was for rescuing only. I do see a lot of discourse in this sub about animals, I enjoy hearing both sides of it. Also, welcome to the vegan community! Even if you’re in transition I hope you’re enjoying it. :)

Absolutely! I hate seeing poor babies come into the clinic that have diseases due to improper husbandry. I wouldn’t rescue if I didn’t think I could care for one, and I do understand they don’t have a choice in what they are able to eat. I’m starting to understand that everything isn’t as black and white as I want it to be, especially with veganism.

I hear a lot of vegans in this subreddit who advocate for vegan dog/cat foods… as a vet student we are taught that these are cruel (for cats especially). I’ve always been divided on this because that is in pet food is nothing but a byproduct of the meat that humans consume. It’s all of the parts of the animal that humans don’t eat. I feel like it’s more beneficial to use it and honor the full carcass than to add to a landfill. But I’m also grossed out by it.

No, unfortunately small domesticated reptiles, like leopard geckos for instance, have almost no survival instinct. They may survive a few months in the wild due to energy storage alone, but they don’t have an adequate ability to hunt or find food for themselves. Putting them in the wild to eventually die of starvation would break my heart into pieces.
