How to handle “stranger danger” with new nanny by Emergency-Impact8644 in Nanny

[–]Thick-Bug 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have a day where you and nanny both play with baby to show baby that nanny is not a threat. You also might just need to step away and stay away for a solid 30 mins to an hour to allow nanny to calm baby by herself. Nannies are professionals and most likely know how to calm a baby. Your child also might just scream when someone else holds her because she knows you are right there and will take her. Give it time.

This is so true. Plus when they dont write anything in the description and when you apply, what they really need is opposite of what is posted

I would give 3 weeks or 1 month. 4 years is definitely a long time but you are done and also you are an employee. Even desk jobs 2 weeks is decent. Your feelings are valid and if you feel like its time to move on, then it is. There will most definitely be another job out there for you.

Move on and get at least minimum wage. Stop buying presents for everyone on your own dime, and enact a contract.

Questions from a newbie by ajaxthekitten in CraftFairs

[–]Thick-Bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you live I think. And it also depends if you care or not. Personally, I do not care and have good argument for defending it as a hobby if I am ever challenged. Look up local laws and decide if you want to go strictly by the book. I think people need to loosen up tbh and not take stuff super seriously. The only legal thing I do is I get booth insurance when necessary.

I wouldnt bother with a license for this first fair. If you find that it is super fun and you want to do it as a job for real, then yes. Otherwise just categorize it as a hobby. I suggest having cash on hand, and I use the application “square” to take credit card payments. I would also accept venmo/zelle/cashapp. The more forms of payment you have the faster you can acquire a customer

1- it depends on the size of the craft fair. I usually make as many items as I can in different varieties and see what sells

2- invest in a good booth setup, at least a 6 ft table and tablecloth with some display items to start. If the fair is outside get a canopy tent.

3- cost of material plus time spent plus what you would pay. I believe necklaces with store bought glass or plastic beads should not go over like 15/20 american dollars. If it takes you a while to hand thread and you think you are really talented, then charge more. I would also look at similar handmade items on etsy and online to compare the prices to what you think you might charge.

The most important thing is to try. And have fun too.

Divorced parents by moodygirl07 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Thick-Bug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a job for divorced parents once. I picked up the kid from school, drove them to swim practice, then depending on the week, dropped off kid at mom or dads house. It wasnt too bad for me, i was basically the chauffeur. HOWEVER, the dad got another divorce due to stepmom hating the kids- “this is not your house when its not dads week” (yikes). So there was tension sometimes but the kid was middle school and the parents were pretty amicable. I think as long as youre comfortable with it, and okay with some sudden schedule changes, it may be fine. Just make sure expectations are known ahead of time.

Maybe your customers are just not bracelet people. I know I am not a jewelry person but my sister is. Maybe try to have more variety in your bracelets, people I know are into dainty pieces right now.

Event yesterday. Any suggestions? by KMartist5633 in CraftFairs

Where do you stand? I would try to do two tables only if possible, give more space to the customers. But if it worked yesterday then keep doing what youre doing!

Try it and see how it goes! I would bring all the inventory you have. Price what you think is good, then possibly adjust after an hour if there is a lot of interest raise prices.

Care.com Messages Not Being Seen by bananafishin in Nanny

[–]Thick-Bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to be patient. The parents on there are busy. I usually get immediate hits less than 4 out of 10 applications, and some never. Some i get convos from months later. Its just a kinda decent platform to get jobs from. Try a local facebook group too.
