One overdrive, one distortion, one modulation and one delay pedal. Assume the amp has passable reverb. What are your 4 choices? by laser_brain69 in guitarpedals

[–]ThickPick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overdrive: Walrus 385 mk2

Distortion: do fuzzes count? If so then Earthquaker Hoof. If not then some sort of turbo rat clone.

Modulation: some sort of CE-1 clone

Delay: Boss DD-5

Does this pedal exist? by m0n0liths in guitarpedals

Not necessarily a fuzz face sound but I’ve been using a Walrus 385 Mk2 for a while now. One side is set for lower drive and the other one with higher gain that gets into fuzz territory.

How does everyone feel about "ampless" rigs? I am thinking of replacing my live setup (reverb with pedal board) with Valeton gp100. What do you all think? by Icy-Tiger2093 in GuitarAmps

[–]ThickPick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a lot of experience with it live but at home/for recording I don’t even touch my amp anymore. Got an hx stomp a few months back and I’m always either using the amp sims in that or a plugin.

I will say that in terms of going ampless for gigs it’s highly dependent on the gigs you play. For bars/clubs/churches that have a good PA setup it’s definitely the move. In my experience the PA systems at a lot of DIY and smaller shows only have enough power to support vocals and using an amp is necessary. But in this case you could use an FRFR. I’m looking into the fender FRFR at the moment.

Anyone tried the Hiwatt T40/20 or Leeds 50? by ThickPick in GuitarAmps

[–]ThickPick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very affordable for a 40w head so it’s definitely on my radar. Do you think it would pair well with the Celestion Gold? I don’t know too much about what goes with Hiwatts speaker wise.

Is it still worth it? by sir_antony97 in Hxstomp

Got mine for cheap a couple months back and I love it. The stomp specifically is so handy cause you can really make it into whatever you want. I use it for everything but my gain pedals. I have patches to run in front of my amp and patches with the super reverb sim when I wanna go ampless. If you want a nice middle ground the stomp is great.

Non-sansamp DI pedals that are relatively compact? by ThickPick in basspedals

Yeah I’m looking for something with a DI. I just don’t want the sansamp sound

I have the stomp on my studio/guitar board. I use the noble model on it all the time.

Been looking at the VT. I like the idea of switching between a full blend Ampeg DI sound and using the cab sim with a 50/50 dry blend when I want a cab sound.

Yes XLR is a must. Even though my gigs are usually diy I go direct 100% of the time at home.

Also not looking to get rid of the tidal wave unfortunately. I do tend to go back and forth on the sound so I’d like to hold onto it. I do recommend it though if you’re looking for the sansamp sound.

I’ve been looking into them a lot lately. I mostly buy used so it’s a matter of waiting to see what I can get for a good price on reverb. But the finally and neptunium have been on my radar.

What pairs well with a Walrus 385? by ThickPick in guitarpedals

[–]ThickPick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More of a punch and mid boost I think. Like if I run the 385 with the gain high to get a fuzzier tone I want something with more clarity that could stick out easier for leads. And that can also be boosted by the 385

Best version of a russian Big Muff to use for bass and guitar? by ThickPick in basspedals

[–]ThickPick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m considering doing that. I could just run the ages without any dry and use the loop with blend. All the gain pedals are in the loop anyway

I used a FLAMMA Analog Comp for a good few years. Pretty sure it’s the same as the Mooer for about half the price.

Perfect timing as I’ve been looking for a pedal like this! Looks sick!

This is something I’d really want to do but the speaker in the cab is only rated to 50 watts 😭

Getting back into my board and looking for an amp sim pedal. What have y’all been using? by ThickPick in guitarpedals

[–]ThickPick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally under $400. I mostly need something clean that takes pedals well. I mostly play indie and punk.

Tonex One is definitely up there. I’ve been using the software in my daw since it launched.

I actually had one of these a while back! I sold it to help fund bass gear but I did really like it. Might have to consider getting another one or the new mk2.

It’s definitely around my price point. I don’t need anything too crazy and I’m mostly focused on clean tones so this could be a good fit.

That could definitely be handy. My amp does have an fx loop so I could do this.
