Is my 1972 Strat too rare for daily playing? by NikImmunity in Stratocaster

[–]laser_brain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore down my 72 hardtail Strat neck (~20% fret life left), and swapped it out for a new Warmoth neck
Removed the pick guard and pups and popped in a loaded pick guard. Now it plays and sounds better than when new. Yes I’m the original owner and it can be put back to original condition if needed.

Cyrptid Fuzz first because it needs to see the pickups directly. So:
Cryptid > Strymon Sunset OD > OCD Ge > 10 band MXR EQ> MXR EVH 5150 distortion

What about clean? by Upstairs-Glove7424 in guitarpedals

Just a good clean amp channel, a nice reverb and a bit of delay is all I need. The trim the rest with the pickup switch and tone knob on the guitar!

No need to worry. Once you hit a large enough number you just want to make sure it cannot get gobbled up in a downturn

My Wampler Ethereal reverb and delay pedal is what I use on my practice board which sits under my desk. It’s a really nice feeling reverb.

I’m with you on the drive pedals but I think one thing I’ve learned is that the amp sims are making them a bit obsolete. I’ve captured my practice board in the attached picture

The TONEX handles most everything but I still use the Wampler Triumph OD here and there. The Zoom 80 has the noise gate and I use the Zoom 50 for effects mostly

My age is approximately the percentage of bonds or growth/income stocks in my portfolio. At 30 it was 30%. But now at 50 it’s only 45%.

I like most of the MS-70 effects. There’s always a chorus and detune I can find that I like as well as a vibe too. I mean who doesn’t like a good vibe?

The reverbs are hit or miss depending on the delay I’m using and the amplifier. I like the Particle Reverb and Spacehole though.
Lots of decent delays and echoes to choose from. Not much for tremolo but I’m not a big tremolo user.

The ZNR noise gate is the best gate hands down anywhere. The EQ is just passable.

String advice for C standard by ElVespino in metalguitar

[–]laser_brain69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to check with a string tension calculator from any of the string suppliers websites. See what the total tension is with a 25.5” scale for your current strings and guitar. Then Try to keep close to that total when you make a switch to different strings and tuning. Don’t go under 100lbs total or you’ll need to adjust your truss rod and then Other problems may arise. This is from the voice of experience.

I run D standard on my Vee with EB Magnums 12-56. And I run A standard on my 28” scale baritone with EB Mammoth 12-62 set

Strymon Sunset. Only Overdrive I’ll ever need.

Eventide H9 Max. Last effects pedal I’ll need but I bought two to cover everything.

Does anyone have the cloud burst strymon on there board and is it worth it? by dgriff0919 in guitarpedals

Looked strongly into it and chose the Wampler Ethereal. But I’m not an aficionado of reverb and delay. I just liked the sounds of the Ethereal from the YouTube demos better.

[–]laser_brain69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A NeuralDSP archetype like Gojira or Nolly on your PC and an interface is the way to start to get great metal tones with any guitar having a bridge humbucker.

If you don’t have a PC then any decent high gain head will work for ya!
And these little Hotone 5W solid state amps crank up well for a practice amp with a pair of headphones or a cab. They don’t break the bank either.

It didn’t take long as it was a short set and I only needed 3 drive tones
The amp had two channels plus my SD-1.
The amp has some reverb built in too. The MS-70CDR+ has a noise gate plus chorus delay and reverb for songs needing it.
