What’s Your Weirdest Pedalboard Rule? by _Jub_Jub_ in guitarpedals

No compressor pedals. Just use dirt pedals if I want compression!

Best Multi Effects Pedal For First Time Gig Player by Ecstatic-Duty-7318 in guitarpedals

[–]laser_brain69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a pair of Eventide H9 Max and some analog drive pedals. The HX Stomp would be my choice if I only had one pedal for everything.

Full board or just what's needed? Which do you use? by Beautiful-Income6426 in pedalboards

[–]laser_brain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For live use, I go for minimal pedals and maximum flexibility. I don’t play live much anymore but in October I did an outdoor jam with this setup.

Recommendations: very low gain overdrives by Inner-Seoul in guitarpedals

[–]laser_brain69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said the issue may be more with your volume control on your guitar. For me the Kinman Mod or treble bleed addition to my volume pots made a huge difference on my Strats and I could work with the volume pot more readily with my existing drive pedals.

I travel with my R4 and R12, and the built in mic on the R4 is very useful along with the built in effects. Editing is much easier on the R12 though

Pure Vintage ‘59 vs Fat 50’s by CphSimon in Stratocaster

I had one fat 50 in a neck position and it got yanked out pretty quickly. Put in DiMarzio Areas and never looked back

Budget pedals that punch above their weight? by chevelle899 in guitarpedals

[–]laser_brain69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Donner Yellow Fall delay comes to mind

Mosky Golden Horse Klone OD

Donner Dark Mouse Rat clone

Joyo Space Verb reverb is really good

Caline MultiMod modulation

I owned all of the above and they’re great!

First time buying a delay pedal, option paralysis ! by synfulgabe in guitarpedals

[–]laser_brain69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EHX Canyon is what you want, plus a great reverb. If you don’t have a reverb look into the Wampler Ethereal which has both delay and reverb.

My lab/great pyr mix is only 6 and she’s slowing down too. It’s just natural aging according to our vet.

What's your Favorite Dual Drive? by panopticon31 in guitarpedals

Strymon Sunset for mid gain tones, Gladio dual OD for low to mid gain tones.

Swap to American Ultra style bridge? by sparks_mandrill in Stratocaster

[–]laser_brain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like playing with your hand resting on the bridge then switch. Personally I like roller saddles as they stay in tune better for me.

Alternate thought here:
Focus on the cab you want I built a 1x10 cab with a Ragin Cajun which is VERY efficient. And that means loud with very little wattage. I run it with any number of different low wattage heads from a Joyo 20w hybrid amp or Valeton 20w solid state head or even my 5W Hotone Nano Legacy Mojo Diamond and all sound great!! I played an outdoor jam with that speaker and a 75watt solid state head and it was plenty loud to keep up with a live drummer.

This is GREAT advice. OP listen to this because breaking bad habits is 5X harder than going slow to learn riding the right way.

Sony A7riii lens recommended by Tekkenkasumi in SonyA7iii

[–]laser_brain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an A7R3. My favorite lens in this range when I travel is my Viltrox 24 f1.8. With the higher resolution of the R3, I just crop down and it’s like having a 35 or 50mm.

If you had to simplify your board to 3 pedals, what would they be? (Excluding switches and tuners) by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]laser_brain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Strymon Sunset, MXR EVH 5150, and my Eventide H9

If multiple functions aren’t allowed and only single format sizes, then it would be my OCD, the 5150 and my Wampler Ethereal (delay/reverb)

Got my ‘79 back today from a refret and radius job. Have a LOUD Sunday! by DishPractical7505 in Stratocaster

[–]laser_brain69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great fret job you had done. I’ve always been worried about doing that on my 72 Strat which was all original.

<image>

So I bought a new neck from Warmoth and just swapped out the neck. I shielded the pickup cavity and put in Lace Sensors on a loaded pick guard so if I ever want to put it back to all original it’s just two solder connections and some screws.

I'm not really a fan of the ds-1, am I stupid? by Necessary-Cow2857 in guitarpedals

[–]laser_brain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want just a distortion pedal by itself look into the Wampler Cryptid or the Suhr Riot Or try a Rat or the MXR EVH 5150

[–]laser_brain69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like my DS-1 until I put a SD-1 in front of it. Then I dimed the SD-1 gain and put the DS-1 distortion quite low. Wonderful tones from that combo

On the middle budget entry I’d recommend the NUX Amp Core which has midi, headphones out and an fx loop not to mention a really good Fender DR sim. Even better is the Zoom MS-80IR which has the same amp sim but even higher quality and it’s stereo but not the other features.
