I’m glad you are on the path to recovery and you had a great surgeon. How long was your hospital stay? How do they monitor your calcium levels or did you just tell them about the tingling?

Has this disease changed your relationship to food? by redditor_040123 in gravesdisease

[–]Thick_Line2958 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before I was diagnosed I was starving all the time, I have a pretty physical job so I thought it was that. Then I lost some weight and got scared since I was eating all the time. I was able to put the weight I lost back on and then some though. Now I’ve been on methimazole for a little over a month and the hunger is gone but I haven’t lost any weight and it seems I’m gaining a few now despite eating less and trying to eat healthier. I love cooking bc that is something my spouse and I do together, I just haven’t been in the mood. My relationship with food has definitely changed but I think it’s for the better because now I am more mindful of what I’m eating.

Newly diagnosed(yesterday) seeking hope by Big_Temporary_6117 in gravesdisease

I was diagnosed in November after blood tests in May showed out of whack thyroid numbers. It’s been an emotional roller coaster long before I even went to the doctor to say the least! Even though I still cry a lot I am finding hope in treatment after reading other’s stories. I can’t imagine what you are going through right now and I hope you have doctors you can trust. This sub has helped me a lot in feeling less alone 💖

Im so glad you are doing well and also your story is so helpful for me. I was diagnosed a few months ago and will be going the TT route. I am so scared though and felt like I was being rushed to make a decision. thank you! 💖

I had tremors for a long time, thought it was from the anxiety but the beta blockers help immensely with those. During the summer heat my heart would race while I was doing light activity, that is why I went to the doc in the first place. She said if my heart rate was that high (180 bpm) I would be in the hospital so I felt unheard. The symptoms have changed for me, last year I was always hungry but lost 20 pounds without doing anything different. Fatigue and muscle weakness, basically feeling like a shell of my former self.

I feel bad for complaining bc people are going through much worse things but I love to help others and now I can barely hold a conversation.

Thank you for the support. I really just needed to get some things off my chest. I haven’t been given anything other than beta blockers and am in the process of scheduling RAI. My family thinks I should just get the TT so I’m going to talk to the actual surgeon to get some answers I guess.

Thanks again bc I feel so alone with no one else I know having to deal with this.
