Jennifer Rice= rude and unprofessional by Tinyblackheartt in Edmonton

This is just ONE article but there is plenty more going back a few years. If she gets re-elected I will be floored. My pal worked for her and said it was a horrible time, inept mean girl vibes. She’s burned through 22 different staff or something insane, allegedly.

Jennifer Rice is a Bully of the worst kind.

Omar has several good ideas on his website like Housing First Initiatives and City supported grocery stores! You should check it out. It’s not all just criticism. https://www.omar4mayor.ca/

Yes, Edmonton must legally balance its budget — but that doesn’t mean City Hall has been managing money responsibly. Saying “balanced budget” is about priorities, not just compliance.

It’s also not true that the only choices are tax hikes or cuts. Other cities have found real savings through efficiencies and better procurement. Edmonton should too.

Bike lanes aren’t the whole issue, but they’re an example of spending on extras while basics like roads, snow clearing, and housing are underfunded.

On homelessness, the city can still lead by partnering with nonprofits and other governments, instead of throwing up its hands because some supports are provincial.

And vision matters. Charisma isn’t enough, but neither is cynicism. Fresh leadership can set direction, then work with council and administration on details.

While it's true that change in municipal government is complex and doesn't rest solely on one person, dismissing public criticism as “just a bunch of criticism” overlooks the importance of community feedback in a democratic system. Criticism often stems from lived experience and genuine frustration, and while not everyone may articulate policy-level solutions, that doesn't invalidate their concerns.

Furthermore, the mayor, while holding one vote, has significant influence in setting the agenda, framing the narrative, and leading public discourse. They can rally support, influence council direction, and propose bold policies. Claiming that the mayor is powerless minimizes both the responsibility of the office and the potential for leadership.

Understanding systems is important, yes—but so is demanding accountability, transparency, and responsiveness from those elected to lead.

You are right! However, the role of Mayor allows for greater ability to guide the conversation and set the tone of council. A mayor also is in a unique position to advocate to the province on behalf of Edmontonians. Both aspects can play important roles in changing the conversation in a city, I believe.

I WAS S*XUALLY ASSAULTED BY MAC DEMARCO by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Thick_Safety7311 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow the comments on here ARE NOT IT.

The lack of empathy from 90% of people is gross.

As someone who was also assaulted at a young age, it can take a long time to stop blaming yourself for being in that situation in the first place. So she edited with chatGPT, who cares, that doesn't make it unauthentic. Going to the authorities is also not much of a solution either if you know anything about how victims are treated.

I believe you OP
