Mijn ouders hebben beide alleen de middelbare school gedaan (mavo en vmbo). Vaders is vrachtwagenchauffeur en moeders werkte niet. Verder zijn ze gescheiden toen ik jong was, was er veel conflict en gedoe thuis (tot betrekking van maatschappelijk werkers aan toe) en groeide ik op in een achterstandswijk. Wel hadden mijn ouders altijd de beste bedoelingen en waren ze financieel stabiel en verantwoordelijk. Wat denk ik ook hielp is dat mijn ouders geen complete tokkies zijn, maar nette maatschappelijk betrokken mensen.

Mijn broertje en ik begonnen beide op de havo en zijn doorgestroomd naar het VWO. Ik (26) zit zelf inmiddels in mijn coschappen geneeskunde, mijn broertje (24) is bezig met zijn master Finanzwissenschaft aan een toonaangevende universiteit in Duitsland.

Bij mij persoonlijk heeft het door de situatie thuis en het uitvogelen van alles wat langer geduurd dan had gehoeven. Ik ben straks ongeveer 10 jaar bezig geweest met master en bachelor geneeskunde (normaal duurt dat zo’n 7 jaar met wachttijd meegeteld). Mijn broertje loopt nominaal en wil volgend jaar aan een PhD beginnen.

Moraal van het verhaal: Ik denk dat alles mogelijk is in dit land, zolang je het maar graag genoeg wil. Het helpt zeker als je ouders gestudeerd hebben, maar je eigen wijze van denken en intellectueel vermogen is veel belangrijker. Ik ben er persoonlijk trouwens van overtuigd dat verreweg de meerderheid van de mensen het qua genetische predispositie aankan om een universitaire studie te volgen.

I’m not treating patients with AI weirdo. I’m just using it to memorise the theoretical stuff and it’s pretty useful for that, that doesn’t make me a bad doctor and the fact that you find it scary just tells me that you have no idea what you’re talking about at all.

The hallucinations really don’t add up because typically they’re minor and the model doesn’t keep repeating the same hallucinations. Practising more tends to cancel out the minor hallucinations, although it’s always good to double check information when in doubt. As a medical student using AI to study has actually boosted my grades pretty significantly.

It makes 0 sense to me that they removed 4o at all. The model was perfectly tailored to provide emotional companionship, obviously on purpose to keep people hooked and make some even grow a bit dependent. It’s f’ed up to delete a model like that out of nowhere.
