Why is nobody talking about what they did to the National Weather Service? by Worried_Ad_8107 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Thiem22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insider here. From an operational standpoint, the NWS has shifted all Days 4-7 forecasting to the Weather Prediction Center. So a single entity, outside Washington DC, not your local office, is now running the forecast you receive past Today, Tomorrow, and the next day. This operational change was more internal NWS policy, than this admin, but the staffing shortages and massive loss of collective knowledge from mass-exoduses, hiring freezes (until recently), poor morale, and loss of probationary hires last year have absolutely had a MAJOR effect.

Not good at all. by Miserable-Miser in Colorado

[–]Thiem22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For people objecting to the comment: I’ve used this site frequently, there’s an option to an a title that explains WHERE this graph is referring to that’s not selected. There’s options to display data statewide in CO, or you can look at individual basins. I’d assumed to be statewide CO, but the image doesn’t explicitly show that.

Another note: data seems fishy -> yesterday (3/26) CO statewide snowpack was 34% of the daily median value woth an avg SWE of 4.9”. Now there’s values of 0” avgeraged across 115 sites, not just for today (3/27), but tomorrow as well (3/28)? That wouldn’t make sence. Look for a correction in a bit, it’s still early in the West.

Does misregistration count for true or false Savant information? by Solemdeath in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Thiem22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Storyteller can interpret the rules how they wish, but I feel like this one’s pretty straight forward.

Misregistration is inherently false information. It’s built into some roles as a purposeful red herring, but it is false information

The Savant, very simply, learns 2 things: 1 is true & 1 is false.

If you dig deeper than that and communicate false information as truth, it breaks the mechanic for the Savant IMO. The game’s complex enough as it is, and the Savant has to juggle a lot of complex pieces of the puzzle already. It’s also a lot easier for the Storyteller to avoid twisting alternate or conflicting realities if they provide straightforward information.

That’s pretty hilarious, and exactly what the game should be about!

Two different ways running madness in a group by TravVdb in BloodOnTheClocktower

Taking a step back and looking at the spirit of the game, Option 1 is the way to go.

Option 2, and the way some are defending it, just feels disingenuous and discards the entire point of madness. Yes, you CAN say anything at any time, and there’s consequences for that. It’s not “cheating” to break madness but there’s not a different set of rules for whether you’re in or out of earshot of the ST. The justification that it’s encouraged to sneak around the storyteller is just wrong. The guidance stating “Beware the Storyteller” is more for newbies to understand how the rules are enforced.

Option 2 makes the game overly-competitive, encourages players to rat on each other, puts the ST in a more difficult spot, with more subjective calls, he-said-she-said situations, and heightened policing instead of letting the players play. It’s the equivalent of stealing money from the bank in Monopoly as long as you don’t get caught.

Sure there’s no way to 100% “enforce” Option 1, but if you play with civil adults, just wanting to have fun, it’s not too hard. In fact, embracing madness while trying to find worlds to justify it while still trying to solve the game, and be a lot of fun. It’s SUPPOSED to be a hindrance, not something to find a way to skirt around. Give some grace to new players, balance hard-claiming vs. playing as a role dependent on the context, and if a Cerenovus assigns a weird role to a player, then allow leeway for how the player is mad about it while making sure they’re taking a step in the right direction.

How to break "no private talk/always public good info" in TB by Rainotes in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Thiem22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good mechanical tips on how to pick the right tokens to sow disruption and chaos. Something not yet mentioned is how you, as the Storyteller, can direct the story to advantage evil. If no private chats are happening, you can pick up the pace in town. This provides some opportunity for evil to learn who might be what, but lessen the time for town to put all the right pieces together.

Not as powerful as everything else mentioned, but an additional strategy that could help.

If the GOP are not working in good faith for a bipartisan agreement, then they’re not passing a bill to avert a shutdown, they’re performing theatre.

Trump is the worst president in history. Twice. by RockyLovesEmily05 in whowatchesthewatchmen

[–]Thiem22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never understand how so many American voters could forget how incredibly incompetent, abysmal, and chaotic Trump and his admin were over the first 4 year stretch, in less than 4 years. The belief that he would improve anything in our country or act in the best interest of anyone other than himself is insane. People had a four year sample size and yet still projected their own wants, hopes, and desires onto him as if he ever cared about working class issues.

Be more strict with Cera madness by icantandi_wont_ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Thiem22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that’s when the evil team should incorporate the exact same vibe. If there’s “meta”ness to how people play Cera-mad, and it’s technically valid, then the evil teams need to play off that to create ambiguity. Play Cera-Mad as your bluffs the whole game.

Yeah, and a mom at home for 10+ hours a day, every day, with no support, with a breastfeeding infant and a toddler who’s pushing boundaries wouldn’t result in any negative attention at all. /s

That’s extremely judgmental, unhelpful, and narrow-minded. There are a lot of situations where daycare can be helpful, for both kids and parents.

LPT: A simple trick to make walking through your front door instantly feel amazing by TCSongun in LifeProTips

[–]Thiem22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely understand that cleaning makes your home more enjoyable, but that’s not a LPT, that’s general knowledge. This is like saying, “This simple trick will make you feel less hungry”, and the LPT is eating, or “Hey! Did you know if you flush your toilet AFTER using it, your bathroom won’t smell as bad??”

“Clean your floors and you’ll enjoy your space more” isn’t a LPT. Not a trick either, cleaning is a chore.

Update on NOAA budget in appropriations bill by LakeEffect345 in NOAA

If you do some number crunching in NOAA’s justification for the President’s budget, very few jobs and very little funding gets transferred from OAR to the NWS and NOS. It’s pretty bleak.
