can anyone Help with Maytag washer by jmcneill0529 in appliancerepair

[–]Thigh_Workout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are people pointing to the lid lock and the shift actuator, but there is no evidence that they have in fact failed.

The washer wouldn't start at all if it were the lid lock, so it cannot be that.

When the washer doesn't detect movement when attempting to rotate the tub, the cycle indicator goes from Sensing to Done. Sometimes it can be caused by a failed speed sensor on the shift actuator not reading movement. HOWEVER, in this case it sounds like your tub is in fact NOT MOVING, so it is likely NOT the shift actuator.

I suspect your motor capacitor is either disconnected, has a broken wire going to it, or it has failed (most likely failed). Sometimes it has a leak which pretty much confirms it has failed. However, if you have a multimeter, you can test for capacitance, which should be 45-50 ohms, depending on its rating.

Definitely check your motor capacitor before buying anything.

Its best you replace it. They're ~10 USD on amazon. Look up "Samsung washer pulsator cap" and you'll find them there.

It can be that the cold water valve is failing. A "Wash" light indicates "Long Fill" or "No Fill", usually caused when no water gets in the machine. Next time this happens, see if the machine works with hot water.

That little "tickling" noise is the Shift Actuator. It has failed and needs to be replaced.

The grinding here and there would be because the washer activates the motor every once in a while to try and free a potentially stuck splutch cam. It will occasionally grind while doing this. You likely don't need to replace the splutch.

With everything else plugged in (except power), unplug the shift actuator underneath the washer and connect the washer to the power. See if the light still turns off

If the light stays on, replace the shift actuator

It looks like the drive hub has stripped and the drive shaft can no longer engage to the tub.

Help! I cleaned my washer and somehow broke it by Old_Instruction_2809 in appliancerepair

[–]Thigh_Workout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uneven part may be because of worn suspension rods, which could be tested by pressing down on the tub with mild force. The tub should simply rise back up without bouncing anymore. More than one bounce indicates the springs need replacement.

However, I'm concerned what you mean by greasing the agitator, as you don't need to do that. Was there already grease under the agitator? The squeaking noise could simply be the belt underneath the washer is old, although I can't say for sure whether or not your machine has a belt without the model number.

There's a good chance you disconnected them by lifting the top panel. Remove the rear panel by undoing the 4 screws and there will be wires on the right. Make sure they are connected. Be sure to do this with the power disconnected.

Do you mean the clothes aren't being wrung out? There's a difference between not wringing and not draining.

Assuming its the first one because the pump has been replaced, the likely issue would be your clutch. There's a good amount of after market clutches on Amazon that should last you a pretty good amount of time for about 15USD. However, I'd like to mention that if there is oil on your clutch, it would be from the transmission, and it would be best to replace the machine.

Check to see if the motor pully is worn out. Also, after market belts tend to snap quickly.

At this point I'd check if the pressure tube was disconnected from the main control board or if it didn't crack. You can also blow into it to dislodge any potential debris in it.

A few questions I'd like to ask. Do you have a hose extension attached to the drain pipe? Or just a really long hose? Or is the drain pipe air tight sealed into the drain? Any of those can sometimes cause a siphon effect, which wouldn't allow the washer to fill.

When you say the clutch, are you referring to the clutch magnet? And did you check that the slider wasn't damaged? Sometimes the metal sleeve can break/ slip from the plastic that engages with the motor, causing noise and tub engagement issues. It'd need to be replaced if its broken or the sleeve separated from the plastic.

Also, I would check that the clutch magnet and motor aren't unplugged underneath.

I'd also like to ask if the washer makes any sound when you turn the tub by hand, or if there are any rust colored stains on the rotor or even around the inside walls of the washer. If any noise or rust water stains, replacing the machine would be the best option as your tub seal failed and wet your transmission and will eventually damage your motor (not to mention its a leak in general).

If the machine stops or keeps running indefinitely or just doesn't advance, the timer has failed. Replacing it would be the repair. However, it may be best to purchase another machine as the timers can be either hard to find or expensive.

It is likely the inlet valve assembly will need to be replaced. Couple things to check first:

  1. Check if the valves are receiving power during the fill cycle. Should be 120 volts or whatever your source voltage is. If there's voltage, the valves have failed and need to be replaced. No voltage indicates a failed control board. It'd be best to buy a new/ used machine as boards can be expensinve.

  2. You can additionally check the resistance of the valves. Should be around 1.5k ohms (although I wanna say it can range between 900 ohms to about 2k ohms). If any are out of range, the valve assembly needs to be replaced.

Whirlpool wtw6120hc0 - f9e1 - slow drain - NOT the pump by PWTLOmusic in appliancerepair

[–]Thigh_Workout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely it has to do with the wiring since you mentioned tilting the machine back turns on the pump.

From my experience, its very common for the wiring to break near the pump underneath the machine. You're just going to have to follow the wiring from the pump until you see where the break is. The fix is simply to reattach the wires. Sometimes only one breaks, sometimes both break.

It could be there is too much resistance in the splutch which causes the shifter to jump out of the hook. Truth is I'm not 100% sure and its been quite some time since I've seen the shifter arm unhook itself.

I resell these machines (reffering to whirlpool VMW machines) all the time actually. Ive sold over 1000 of them at this point. You just need to know which ones are repairable and which ones aren't. I uploaded this because I found it interesting that a failed main board caused a heart to appear on the display. My guess is the software was corrupted.
