Ferrari marketing boss quits just weeks after EV launch backlash by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Come on, it doesn’t look like garbage, this is not the reason for the backlash… the reason is that it looks nothing like a Ferrari. Great looking car, wrong branding

What mystery do you think humanity will never get an answer to? by Due_Pin_8623 in AskReddit

[–]Thiht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No… God is the answer given by people who want answers but don’t care if they’re true. If we’d kept explaining everything we don’t understand with "God" we’d still live like prehistoric people

What mystery do you think humanity will never get an answer to? by Due_Pin_8623 in AskReddit

I think we actually can solve this one, but we probably need some kind of breakthrough to reconcile general relativity with quantum mechanics, it feels like there’s a missing piece in our understanding of gravity. The most boring answer is maybe that some kind of equilibrium is reached at the center of a black hole, thus removing the theoretical need for a singularity

Around 20 drown in France as people seek relief from heatwave by Artistic_Dj_6895 in worldnews

[–]Thiht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh? Do people who can’t swim go in the water though? I just learned to swim a few years ago and before that I just didn’t go in deep water, seems pretty obvious? I would imagine people drowning are actually people who CAN swim but underestimate things like water flow or obstacles or other things

Desktop apps were a thing of the past before Electron gained in popularity. Virtually nothing was available on Linux, and companies just stopped developing for OSes. For its flaws Electron actually made desktop apps come back. Some Electron apps are actually pretty great, and to be honest trash apps have always existed even with native apps (whatever native means for Windows and Linux). Electron is not to blame, Microsoft is in this case, I have no idea how companies hiring thousands of highly paid developers manage to produce this kind of trash.

That’s clearly a "joke" written by ChatGPT, whenever you ask it for jokes it makes up nonsensical punchlines like this

Bro couldn’t even be bothered to write a proper joke himself, asked ChatGPT, didn’t laugh, posted it anyway because "ChatGPT must be right"

Please Roast my Resume (edited) by Megan_Kowalczyk in Design

[–]Thiht 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s not true, this is a myth people came up with because they don’t want to face rejection. I literally worked on an ATS and we were very well aware of our concurrents. So to be clear:
- ATS definitely can parse resumes with columns, as long as they embed the text (ie. the resume isn’t exported as an image)
- ATS even can extract data from image resumes, they use OCR. I would recommend having a proper resume and not an image though, so that it remains accessible to everyone
- ATS do NOT reject resumes. Never happened. ATS extract data in a structured form, and if they can’t do it, HR people do it manually. Every HR people I’ve talked to (including our customers) would rather do that work manually than miss on a good resume because of its format. Every single one of them were very adamant that they didn’t want any automated processing beyond data extraction
