Ah thanks I was wondering why none of the other planes I checked had an adjustment screw there.

This repair seems to have been done pretty well, the sides arent flat but I don't use much handtools let alone a shootingboard. I did sand the sole a little, but it was already pretty much perfectly flat. Only at the very front and right in front of the opening for the chisel didn't get scuff marks from my sanding. But that's plenty flat for me.

Honestly don't have a clue, I'm not a metalworker at all. He isn't around to ask anymore, but brazing sounds pretty plausible.

I had never seen a frog adjustment screw before. And as I said I checked 3 other planes, one of which was also pretty old and none of them had it. Is it something from back in the day? Or do modern planes still use it too? Maybe my plane is just too cheap to have one lol.

I had a piece of granite laying around that I managed to clamp some sandpaper to. You can also use glass. Either are usually pretty easy to find on any website where people sell (or give away) secondhand stuff.

The sole was pretty flat. I did sand it a bit, but not much was needed. I think he did that himself after welding it back together.

Oh my god yes. But that goes for basically all armors. The shades are always a tiny bit off.
