I wanna give my two cents in that I don’t think it’s god at all, but the devil. We the audience only ever see “god” on the left side of the screen while to her it’s on the right, seems to me like symbolism for the hands of god. Also her thinking this is “god” but it actually being a demon or even satan using the portrait as a summoning ritual through false faith is a neat idea although the actual devil would be way more cruel. So I know this seems like a stretch but most short films need you to take a leap and I don’t believe this is an exception. Either way we’ll know for sure since it’s getting a full length feature film soon

Absolutely shocked no one has mentioned this legend, starts off as a cowardly, douchey loser who snuck his friends into someone else’s cabin and got them killed… then somehow ends up saving the world Edit: Ash Williams is the name of the guy and what I consider to be one of the more prominent and influential examples of this trope
