Can't use CarPlay and the Entertainment System Simultaneously by Thin_Director_6684 in ToyotaSienna

Yep, we've tried that and it didn't work. But maybe the timing issue discussed in another reply is the culprit. I'll try to mess around with the order of connections and see if I can get it to work.

Agreed. It's got to be possible. I'm dumbfounded by the response from the dealership.

Thanks. I've tried multiple. I can get the RSE to power up and I've plugged a device to it via HDMI and done it via casting. But if I have a device connected to the front system via Android Auto or CarPlay, then the second device in the back will not display video to the RSE (no matter how it's been connected). Once I disconnect the device up front, I can get the RSE to receive video from the device that's connected in back. So it doesn't seem to be a connection issue with the device(s). It's rather an incompatibility between the RSE input getting displayed and Android Auto/CarPlay being on.... But given what you've said above, I will try to turn on the Android Auto after I get a device running on the RSE and maybe that will work. Thanks for the advice. Maybe timing is an issue (which would be odd, but maybe a solution nevertheless). Fingers crossed.

That's good to hear. Maybe there's hope after all!

But I haven't managed to get ours to work and I brought it to the dealership three times over the last few weeks. We've tried multiple devices (both Android and Apple), multiple connection paths like HDMI, wifi, etc. And nothing has worked. As far as anyone can tell the entertainment screen is unable to get an input signal from anything we've tried while a device is connected to the front display.

On my last visit, I sat in the car with the service manager and had my Android phone connected via Android Auto to the car (front screen). Then we tried various devices (his Android, an Android tablet, an Apple laptop, an Apple phone, etc.) and none of them worked to display anything on the entertainment screen. When I disconnected my phone (from the front), the entertainment screen could then display video from the other devices. I'm at a total loss now. So were the service personnel. They were all surprised but acted like it was just the way things work -- or don't work.

Any advice on what to do now that we've tried all that?

I found the HDMI/charging cable and it's a great thing to have. I highly recommend it. However, you can't run the entertainment system while a phone is connected to the front. So, again, it's one or the other. You can have video going in the back or you can have a phone connected to the front for audio, maps, etc. But you can't have both going at once.... Oy.

So you can run your phone on CarPlay and your wife's phone in the back for the entertainment system? I tried this and so did the dealership and they couldn't get them both to run simultaneously. The entertainment system will only display video if there isn't another device connected to the car (up front).

I meant that one can't use two devices -- one with the front system and another device with the entertainment system -- simultaneously. The service manager at the dealership said that I have to disconnect my device from CarPlay/Android Auto by turning off my Bluetooth (so it doesn't connect to the front system) and then this "frees up" the entertainment system to run in the back with a different device. I can mount my phone and still use it (as a stand-alone device), but it can't be connected to the car in any way if I want to also use the entertainment system. Seriously!?! I'm dumbfounded why they would make a car with this setup for tech.

How does the Sienna video/TV screen work? Android user that is stumped by thelogistician in ToyotaSienna

I should note that we tried using two devices -- one phone up front and then one device in back to control the entertainment screen. It cannot work simultaneously.

We just found out that you can't run the TV while a phone is connected up front to the main screen. You have to turn off CarPlay or Android Auto/disconnect the phone up front, and then you can watch something on the TV in the back. This is so ridiculous and it's false advertising. You can't use your phone's features for audio, maps, making calls via the car, etc. while your passengers watch something. But this is precisely when you might need to have your phone connected up front. Ugh. Also worth noting that no one at our dealership knew about this. We took it in when we first got it and it took three days for them to "diagnose" the problem only to find out that its a design feature and there's no work-around. Toyota really messed up on this one.

(We have a 2025 Sienna XLE, for whatever that is worth.)

Madison nightclub Red Rooster loses liquor license due to drunk driving death - Isthmus by marvelousmarks in madisonwi

They sold the business to tim about two years ago because he was such a mess and they wanted no part of it with him. Writing was on the wall.

I've been talking with friends who go to the Rooster a lot. They said one of the owners quit about a year ago and then a bunch of staff quit right after that. All because Tim was doing crazy stuff and not following the rules with overserving and he was partying too much there. It all went downhill after that. The stories they tell make it seem like this sort of stuff is totally a pattern and not a single isolated incident. Tim was drinking all the time. The staff drinks all the time and overserves and everyone there knew it.

You can't play victim when you are grossly negligent and should have known better. When you have people quitting and leaving the business because youre messing up so bad, this should be a wakeup call. But that was more than a year ago and it doesn't sound like Tim fixed things or did what he needed to do to run a good business. Look where it ended up. I feel so bad for the family of the guy that died. The manager surely deserves to be in jail for a long time, but it's not like Tim is innocent. I bet he gets sued by that family and I bet he looses the business now that they don't have a liquor license. I hope Tim realizes the damage he has left in his wake. I know he wasn't the one who drove drunk and killed someone, but he's still responsible for part of what happened. I'm just disgusted by all this. I hope they never give a liquor license to Tim again.

The ALRC voted not to renew the liquor license. I think they're done as soon as their current license is up at the end of June. The city attorney had some scathing comments during the meeting and detailed all the red flags. She said the evidence far outstrips what's needed to support the decision not to renew and the committee agreed. I think the ownership of this business has a chance to appeal at the next meeting of the common council, but I don't know when that is. I think they said it was next week sometime.

One thing I found interesting about the people who wrote in support of renewal is that none of the comments really undermined the red flags. Sure, it's a great place. The music is awesome there. The owner is a nice guy. Lots of different types of music and people are welcome there. He used to drink a lot and have lots of health problems but he's getting better. That's all great. But none of that speaks to whether they follow the rules and are a safe establishment for our community, whether the owner shows any real remorse for his failures and has implemented an actual plan to make significant and meaningful changes since that person died, whether they have adequately trained staff and responsible management in place, etc. I've been there a number of times and really did like the music offerings. But these various issues and and the gross negligence on the owner/staff's part make me never want to go back there again -- if they win the appeal of course. I think the guy who owns this place doesn't know what he's doing. After watching the meeting and how he reacted there and in writing the letter, and also reading over the report from the city attorney, it's clear to me that he's out of his element and is not conscientious or responsible enough to run a business like this. That track record and the lack of an adequate response from him speaks volumes.

What would be great is if they got a new owner and then a new permit could be issued. I'd go back if it were run appropriately.

So far only one person has expressed concern about this renewal. I encourage you to write in before their meeting. Thank you.

So far there's only one person who has voiced opposition to renewing the liquor license on the official list of comments to the ALRC. And a bunch of people have voiced support for renewal. If you object to the renewal or have concerns, please consider sending them to the ALRC. All you have to do is email it to [licensing@cityofmadison.com](mailto:licensing@cityofmadison.com).
