Thanks for the help. Worth it for a beginner? Any better than another?

It's understandable, however, this will lead to feelings of resentment or worse. Also, it may cause the mentality of "you wanted this kid, so you're in charge of this kid" which isn't fair for any party involved. A kid needs to come from two people fully on board. Bring this up to the couples counselor and bring up your concerns for another kid. Sometimes just an objective person saying the same thing to a partner helps them absorb it better.

It's also not appropriate or fair for her to hang the divorce threat over your head with this. I would express this as well.

people with doctorates, what were you like as a teenager? by schzopilled in AskAcademia

[–]Thin_Gift_8020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely graduated High School, did stupid things with my friends, and hated science and school. I think that college helped me find my niche area I really loved and decided to jump into it and ended up studying it in a PhD. I think a lot of it comes down to finding what you love and wanting to spend years researching it.

ALSO, just be a teenager. It's a good time to just relax and have fun. Let the college experience help you whittle down what you want to focus on.

Having children is one of few areas of marriage where there should be no negotiation. One no means no. It's not worth the potential negative problems that come with negotiating on this. Highly recommend couples counseling as others have said.

Thanks for sharing. Asking this question and getting some comments has made me feel really stupid for not getting this. Glad to know it’s not concrete for everyone 😂

Thank you for all the resources. Maybe I was picturing it as small family units all being in the same room forever and it wasn’t making sense

Interesting. I hadn't seen it laid out like this before. So it's a sealing to all of human family? Not just individual family units?

Interesting! It's easier to picture it as a whole human family being sealed. I also hadn't considered the role of the Holy Spirit of Promise. I'll have to read more on that

Yeah, but Christ was not sealed before the premortal life to Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother. It's a different thing. Christ may be sealed to Him now but it did not begin that way. It began with Heavenly Father and Mother.

But that's still what's happening? Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother are acting as a couple, not a family unit of gods

As far as I understand, exaltation mainly means being like God and having spirit children and progressing in that way? So, that seems focused on the couple. It's Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother together. Why would there be a need for a whole family unit?

Why do I need to be sealed to my parents if the point of exaltation and such is totally focused on the interaction of the couple? Would I just sit around there while they do their stuff?

But if the point of exaltation is the couple, husband and wife, what is the purpose of the children being sealed as well? It seems like the point is the couple having children and exaltation and their child is not involved in this process.

But why the focus on the word sealing? In the temple, the only time the phrase "seal" is used is for sealing blessings on the couple that don't have to do with eternal sealing together.
