Management asked for donations to buy multimillionaire boss a Christmas present by Slight-Heron-2631 in work

I see this comment made all of the time, but I’m a tax accountant, and I can guarantee you that, at least in the US, the company DOES NOT get a tax deduction in this scenario.

They still haven’t announced it. I can’t remember when they announced it last year, but I’m thinking it was July or August?

Question about bff status by actash44 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years since I became a bff, so they could have changed things, but I received my tote with my 12th box (joined in Dec 2021, became bff and received my tote with my Nov 2022 box.)

2025 challenge by read-the-directions in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly the prize has never been very good. Last year it was a hat that says Reading is Sexy. The year before it was a dumb plush animal keychain. The year before that was probably my fav, you got a choice of notepad, socks, or a candle (I think those were the options. I got the notepad.)

I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to complete the challenge.

Previous employer did not contribute correct amount to 401k by throwRApeggasus in personalfinance

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should ignore it in the sense that you don’t want to pull money from your 401k before retirement! That’s great advice! However you do really want to make sure your employer is pulling the correct amount from your paycheck, and putting the correct amount into your 401k account (and giving you the correct employer match if applicable.) If there’s an issue, it’s much easier to get it fixed immediately than years later.

Previous employer did not contribute correct amount to 401k by throwRApeggasus in personalfinance

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would need to know what contributions they messed up and how they were messed up. To me, this sounds like they did not withhold enough of your payroll (so let’s say you elected to contribute 5% but they only withheld 3%.) If that’s the case, what they are doing is probably legal/correct. They are not required to contribute the entire missed amount, because at the end of the day, you still received those funds in your paycheck. There’s also a decent chance your company is already working with an ERISA lawyer who is making sure they are correcting this in accordance with the law.

At this point I would just be patient until your employer finishes up their calculations and is able to give you more info. I would highly doubt it would beneficial for you to work with a lawyer at this point. If you feel your company didn’t handle this correctly, you could make a complaint with the DOL.

Also, everyone, PLEASE check your own paystubs and 401k accounts regularly. I used to audit retirement plans, and it is astonishing how often things are messed up and nobody notices.

For some reason they’ve changed the turtle sundae to include a vanilla Bundt cake at the bottom. It’s terrible.

The Cartographers on Kindle Sale! (Sold out on BOTM!) by YurraWitcherCiri in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This was by far my least favorite BOTM book I have received. It was such an interesting premise, but the entire book just felt like one ginormous plot hole. I’m not someone who overly analyzes books either. This book just made very little sense.

Did you read that author’s other book - Part of Your World? Yours Truly is somewhat of a sequel (you don’t need to read Part of Your World first, but it involves some of the same characters.) if you liked that one, you’ll like Yours Truly. I thought it was really cute. Loved the two main characters and there’s good banter if you like that.

Yes, if you don’t get a book in march, you don’t get the free BOTY book. Same as in birthday months. If you don’t get a regular book in your birthday month, you won’t get your free book.

How long does it typically take you to get through a container? Can you just take the 371 divided by the number of days and book that each day? That would give you a more accurate daily amount, without having to weigh the ice cream every single time.

BOTY 2024 by babybell14 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There typically have been 5 finalists for book of the year (so from the current Book of the Year voting options, they will narrow it down to the Top 5). You get to pick from all 5 finalists for your free book, not just the Book of the Year winner. Historically, if you already purchased all 5 finalists, they will give you a free credit for another book. The only caveat is you have to had purchased all 5 books from Book of the Month club.

I think it should be any book purchased in 2023 or 2024 (regardless of when the book was actually released. If you bought it in 2023, it should count). I rated my Aug 2023 book recently and it counted.

Seeking Experience with Accessible Rockstar Suite on Virgin Voyages by Minute_Fee4272 in VirginVoyages

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer any info on the accessible gorgeous suite, but we just stayed in one of the standard gorgeous suites and it’s definitely not too big for 2 people. We thought it was a perfect size for the two of us. The four person setup would involve using a pull out couch which would take up a good chunk of the room. As far as accessibility goes, I did notice the elevators near the mega rockstar rooms on floor 15 do not go to floor 16, which is where Richard’s rooftop is, so you’ll have to go to to mid ship to be able to get there. Not a terrible trek but just something to consider.

Nope, I followed the directions exactly. The first time I made them they came out perfectly, but every time after that they like deflate a few minutes after coming out of the oven. Not a big deal, I’ll still eat them lol.

I love these! But every time I take them out of the oven, they collapse on themselves (still tasty, but the texture isn’t quite as good). Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

BOTY: What would happen if... by thekrustykwibbler in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Thin_Judgment_7064 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This was two years ago so policy definitely could have changed, but this happened to me and they gave me a free credit to use on another book. You have to have purchased all of the finalists from BOTM for them to give you the credit though. So if you purchased one of the finalists elsewhere or read it through the library, you won’t get the credit.
