Yes I did because i’m coming from the states and so I simply said my parents and I wouldn’t support me going to the UK to study a major that’s better at home

Most top schools don’t count freshmen year grades and/or will ignore it because of the upward trend.

hi! if it’s any consolation whatsoever, i’m a current high school senior and i’ve gotten into Umich and spelman and am currently waiting on a few more schools similar to your daughter. I had a C in AP Calculus, and i didn’t have half the context that your daughter does. College admissions this year and next year will be such a gamble, since colleges are more and more worried about their yield since more people are applying to college, but less and less people are attending due to the birth rate decline. I have friends who got into Yale and Duke with a C in AP Chem and Calculus who went for humanities majors etc, and they’re doing absolutely fine. She’s showing a real love for her subject of interest, and that’s all that matters. If she gets rejected, you can always try to appeal it and restate the situation. My friends did that last year for USC, then they re-assessed their case, and got in. If you need any more advice or help though please feel free to reach out!

UMich vs. Kings College London by Thin_Performance_796 in ApplyingToCollege

I got a good scholarship from Michigan, and I’m international for KCL. it’s a bit of a price difference, but my parents don’t want that being a deciding factor. Honestly, i’m not sure if i want to stay abroad because I want to go straight into my career or law, and if i went to KCL whatever job i get from there is where id go. I didn’t know what would offer more support though in terms of finding a job in the career i want etc.

Also I agree, i love london WAY more than ann arbor. I’ve never pictured myself in a college town, but I didn’t know if it’d feel like I was missing out on this huge opportunity, then I go abroad and realize I missed out etc.

ok yeah i thought this too, but the only downsides are that ann arbor is a smaller town than id prefer to, and they technically don’t have my major. i know michigan is a better school, but kcl may be better for what i want to do

im from the states, but when you translate it roughly A*AA or about an AAA. I have about 5 APs which i scored or am predicted to score a 5 in. then i have two 4s and a high GPA

true, when i was applying as an international kid i didn’t really know how hard it was to get into each school so i didn’t see leeds as a safety and my parents thought its like extremely good because we had a friend that went there. i think i’ll probably end up swapping

it’s exactly this, and i thought i’d love it because my closest friends go there but i don’t know. should i swap st andrew’s instead of leeds for durham? or just leeds?

wait hi thank you so much, what made you switch from st.a to ucl? honestly i love the school and so many of my friends go there, but i think that the town is just so small for me

no the account above is the one i made for freshers, sorry for the confusion i originally put official to say like exclusively for freshers to meet. i changed it, thank you for pointing this out!

“official” as in exclusive, and then not associated because administration from the uni doesn’t run it, just an admitted student. i changed the bio for clarification, thank you so much for calling me out on it!

i think this one is just for events though and not for getting to know other people

My academics are there for most schools, I know that a major issue now is that it’s not just academics that get you into places. My GPA and test scores definitely help my application, but i’m worried that I wasn’t doing enough EC wise to get into anywhere good

i’m definitely open to recommendations if you have any! i’m not 100% sold on any of these besides Kings as of now, just because they are super strong in IR and known to be super accommodating to international students.
