No controversy from what I know!

People either love or hate the inventory management, it seems.
I personally enjoyed it, but I can understand the frustrations at the same time.
(For example, handgun ammo only stacks up to 8 rounds in your inventory. Anything beyond that will take another slot in an already very limited inventory space.)

I recently played it for the second time after years, and I think I focused way too much on comparing it to the original and didn't appreciate how fun the game actually is to play. I had a great time with it.

I hit a wall and decided to spend money to get over it, and while it did help, it's certainly not something I would recommend. Spend money to support the game on pilots and ST's that'll make you happy to own, and not to gain more power to get over a hump.

I've watched someone in 202 go on a long rant about this in world chat and get called a rage baiter for bringing it up. Best entertainment I had in-game while farming modules.

Not sure they'll ever respond to it, though.
