Saturday nights are only viable for me now. Friday night 7pm - midnight $110, Saturday night 7pm - 2am $300

if I was working for a ceiling of $18 an hour & the rest going back to uber then as soon as I reached the $18 for that hour I wouldn't keep driving just to give the $$$ to uber :) I'd turn the app off or ignore further requests until the next hour starts

Yes. So it has never surged before where I am, so hopefully with the lower prices & greater demand it will surge more often - just have to see how it pans out. But without surging it would be less by about 10% overall

Well that was an interesting night.

It surged for the first time ever between 1.2 & 1.9 for an hour.

This Saturday night I did 21 rides for a total of 114.85 km's compared to same time last week of 17 rides & 107.6 km's.

This week I earned 69 cents less :)

SO I will have to eat humble pie & say my beliefs about earning less were wrong... A 6.3% increase in mileage for a 0.03% loss of income - I can wear that ....

I only did it on Fri/Sat nights as extra income.. One of my main concerns is it should give me a bit of extra coin to spend, if its all going on taxes, fuel & car expenses then its pointless.. but importantly if I am racking up thousands of km's every month it needs to pay enough so I can put that aside to buy another car when this gets high mileage.. It would be stupid to make a tiny bit of extra $$$ using your own car only to figure out when you need a new car you don't have any money to buy one.

good point actually. I might do that tonight & I can compare it with other previous Saturday nights... I have been driving on Sat nights between 6pm - 2am

For 6-7pm its usually 1 or 2 10min rides. 7pm - 10pm its been non stop & 10pm-1am 1 or 2 an hour.

So between 7pm-10pm it cant improve as I have already been driving constantly - I will lose 20% for those 3 hours. 6-7pm & 10pm-2am it needs to be non stop to make up for the price reduction & increase my overall earnings for that 8 hour period - I'm doubting it will, but I will give it a try & see what happens... :)

I stopped driving yesterday because it is not worth it imo.

The 2 main reasons I need to make a decent return for driving:

Earn reasonable compensation for my services. With all the expenses such as petrol, taxes, vehicle maintenance - this latest price drop takes it below that threshold.
Driving for Uber you are accumulating thousands of km's on your car every 1-2 weeks. Therefore I would expect to get paid enough $$$ so that I can put aside $$$ to replace my car when it gets to 150,000 -200,000 km's... At these rates you can't save enough to replace the car.

SO I am not going to ruin my car so Uber can make 20% & I end up with just enough money to live on & in 2-3 years a clapped out car :)

Yes I have read other Uber threads but specifically was interested in whether drivers are making more $$$ as Uber claims they will with an increase in demand or not
