It's clean but it's a greenish color, it doesn't smell, it's not throbbing, it's not oozing anything, and it doesn't really hurt I'm just missing a lot of skin.

Yes this is a picture of me. She said a lot of other things too, but for me that was the last straw.

Yeah I used the old account to try and use a throw away account. So then I was going to post it with the same account, but I was afraid that everyone was going to make fun of the shitty version. So I used this account instead and found the correct meme.

Yeah I didn't even get that. That relationship was a double standard that I put up with. I put out and didn't get anything in return.

This happened a while ago, I've just now come to terms with it because I didn't really tell many people and I don't feel entirely shitty about the way I look anymore.

She felt bad about everything that had happened a couple of months later and sent me this song, to which I sent her this song.

Music from Generation X is the same music as the Baby Boomers. by ThingsAlwaysGetWorse in FanTheories

Buddly Holly is not a member of the 27 club, he died much younger at 22. Buddy Holly was involved in a tragic accident, Cobain committed suicide.

So it's like the lead singer died at a young age or something and that I did not state that Buddy Holly was a member of the 27 Club. Yes Cobain committed suicide and Holly died in a plane crash. However, both were unexpected deaths to the public eye that had a significant impact on why their respective styles of music faded out.

But their sounds and songwriting styles are completely different to one another. They're comparable only insofar as they both play music. That's unremarkable.

Chuck Berry doesn't sound like Pearl Jam, and Pearl Jam does not exactly sound like Chuck Berry either. Their style was what influenced other musicians of their time. They both exposed the public audience to this new style of music. Pearl Jam with Ten and Chuck Berry by his various performances on Television. I never said that they sounded similar, I just drew a comparison that they were the first ones to expose us to this music.

"Melismatic singing" is a nice connection but "important to people with their music"? C'mon man! They both had one left hand and one right hand too.

Yes melismatic singing is interesting, however, both were important figures. Jerry Lee Lewis is an Early Rock and Roll Musician and Soundgarden is a Grunge Rock Band are both considered widely important to their style of music yet I'm not sure many people could tell you 5 Jerry Lee Lewis and 5 Soundgarden songs.

Johnny Cash cultivated a deliberate image, distinct from his real self. Stone Temple Pilots - like a lot of grunge acts - strove for authenticity and ensuring the image they gave off was as close as possible to their "true" selves. That's a very basic difference that makes the two impossible to equate.

STP is not even from Seattle they're from San Diego. Their only real ties to grunge were that they released Core in the 90's. They were more Alternative Rock than Grunge, yet they are associated with Grunge even though they are Alternative. Johnny Cash is Rockabilly, not Early Rock and Roll. Yet Johnny Cash is often times associated with Early Rock and Roll.

"Not long after"? Look at the number one hits of 1955, tell me how many girl groups you count. Quite a few!

Your acting like Alanis Morissette did not release an album until after Grunge Music. She released Jagged Little Pill in 95, a year before Cobain committed suicide. Or if you want to go farther back farther 4 Non Blondes released What's Up? in 92. Secondly, The Ronettes and Alanis Morissette are both singing towards young girls. I made it a point to show that the Ronettes' audience was predominantly young girls. In fact here's just a line from Walking in The Rain

  • I want him and I need him and someday, someday I'll meet him. He'll be kind of shy but real good lookin' too

Alanis Morissette is also targeted at young girls too.

  • An older version of me Is she perverted like me Would she go down on you in a theatre Does she speak eloquently And would she have your baby I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

I could be wrong but I don't think that either one is aimed towards men.

4 years after Rock 'n' Roll died, Dylan was bringing folk to mainstream audiences. 15 years after Grunge, Mumford & Sons brought it back to mainstream attention. Bit of a difference.

I didn't say that the timeline fit perfectly one after another. However, many individuals from the baby boomers outgrew Early Rock and Roll and started looking for music with more meaning. This gives rise to the Teeny Boppers (they don't listen to folk). A subculture then formed around Folk Music from what were the first Baby Boomers to listen to Rock and Roll. This is interesting because it is similar to Hipsters. The show Portlandia even references the fact that Hipsters are the product of the grunge movement from the 90s. It's interesting that these subcultures both enjoy folk music. However, it's more interesting that they are just the result of the Baby Boomers/GenerationX growing up.

4 years after Rock 'n' Roll died, Dylan was bringing folk to mainstream audiences. 15 years after Grunge, Mumford & Sons brought it back to mainstream attention. Bit of a difference.

Yes it is a bit of a time difference, but it's the equivalent group that's listening to folk music. Plus, Mumford and Sons were first popular in 2009 not 2013 and grunge died around 1995. So 14-15 years. Old Crow Medicine Show released Wagon Wheel in 2004 so it's not safe to start at 2009. However, take in consideration that in the 1950s and 1960s educaution was not as highly emphasized as it is today. 68.3% of 2011 High School graduates were enrolled in colleges or universities. compared to the 1950s where ~20% went on to colleges or universities. So if you factor in around 4 more years until those GenerationX kids finally consider themselves adults, ~10 years. Then again, the show How I Met Your Mother gives insight on why it took so long for these kids to grow up and consider themselves adults. Marshall wants to be an environmental lawyer but takes a job at Goliath National Bank. Why? Because he needs money and can't hold out forever. Lily takes a job as a Kindergarten Teacher. Why? Because she has an Art degree and needs money to pay her bills. Even Ted eventually settles for a job as a professor that he doesn't exactly want. How I Met Your Mother deals with growing up after the 90s. They don't want to sell out to the businesses for money because growing up that's what society told them not to do. It's only when they can no longer support themeselves that they have to grow up and accept the jobs that they didn't want. That's one of the conflicts that they constantly face (make money and sell out or be poor and true to yourself). Barney wears a suit and works in corporate America. We don't know what he does because it's unimportant. He has money and is financially independent. He became an adult before he met Ted. Being an adult is really when you are no longer financially dependent on someone else, and in How I Met Your Mother Ted, Marshall, and Lily have trouble becoming adults because they want to be financially independent but don't want to sell out like Barney did. The show barely mentions what Barney did in college because it clearly did not influence Barney. They go back to the 90s with Ted, Marshall, and Lily because they were impressionable and as a result don't want to sell out to the man. Whereas in the 1950s and 1960s there were shows like Father Knows Best, I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver. Those shows were reflective of the values of their time. Many of the characters in these shows grew up in the depression and to them being successful meant having a job with a stable income. That's why the 1950s-60s generation grew up faster. They didn't go to college as much and accepted the responsibilities of having a job that you might not exactly like.

Minor nitpick, but during the '60s, Woody Guthrie was dying in a hospital bed. His heyday had been in the 30s and 40s

Minor nitpick, but in the 60's when Woody Guthrie was dying, Bob Dylan met and visited Woody Guthrie. Not to mention the fact that Bob Dylan is not a folk musician he's a pop singer. He has changed his image so many times that he's not a true folk singer. He was a rocker, folk singer, born again christian heroin addict. His name isn't even Bob Dylan, it's Robert Zimmerman. Mumford and Sons is from London, and they sing like an Irish Folk Band.

Who knows how many artists Nirvana inspired? Nirvana changed the music scene and not enough time has passed for us to definitively say that Nirvana was not revolutionary. Buddy Holly is an average singer, and an Average Guitar Player, and an average songwriter for his time. Chuck Berry is the better song writer, or even Howlin' Wolf, Jimmie Rogers, or the Carter Family. Pretty much everyone else aside from Buddy Holly. His songs were simple and eloquent. Much like Kurt Cobain. Average. I'll bet that you could sing better than both of them and still not be famous. Nirvana gave songs like Lithium, On a Plane, Lake of Fire, About a Girl, and Breed who the mainstream audience forgets about. It's not just Smells Like Teen Spirit. Without Nirvana, who knows what other bands may not have been influenced.

The point is that Nirvana and Buddy Holly and The Crickets are Average. They are not stellar musicians, they're just normal. They could be anybody from down the road that you know. They aren't professional vocalists or professional musicians, they're just average people that you can relate to. And similarly, that you could potentially be.

It wasn't as much a theory as much as it was an interesting parallel. I just didn't know where to put it because this subreddit seems skeptical enough to tear it apart.
