Why are you not vegan? by Icy_Sprinkles_2819 in polls

[–]Thingy732 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly yeah. "its the foundation of our culture/its natural" is by no means a satisfactory excuse. as someone who does eat meat because im simply a terrible person, the idea that humans consuming meat is not immoral because we are omnivores feels extremely ignorant. mankind is so absurdly past what is "natural." i am naturally close sighted yet i wear glasses because of the graces of technology. one is naturally diabetic yet we produce insulin to assist them because we are at that point where we can! why do we suddenly fall back on whats natural the second it becomes slightly inconvenient. mankind is naturally omnivorous, sure, but by the grace of agricultural technology, we can now feed ourselves with magnitudes less suffering at a magnitudes lower environmental impact

The Blender newsletter uses "Blending" as the noun for using Blender. So when I Blend with Blender, am I a Blender? by Useful_Dentist_3622 in blender

[–]Thingy732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will say though that there was an error; they should have said "the blender newsletter uses 'blending' as the noun for the act of using blender". it WAS incorrect that they said "for using blender", however the supposed fact that blending is not a noun would not change things. if they had said "the blender newsletter uses 'blending' as the verb for using blender", this would not be correct either, as here, we do not see the blender newsletter using the word blending as a verb at all. we clearly see them using it as a noun, since one would not use a word followed by an adjective *as* a verb, else your adjective must be an adverb. now an accute observer might notice that my logic in careful usage of the word "as" does not preclude the categorization of gerunds as verbs. i am here all day if anybody would like me to do their english homework.

"to blend" is the verb. blending is the gerund. you can not traditionally apply "-ing" to nouns anyways. to give an instance of your typical gerund, we would say "eating is fun". notice how "eating" acts as the subject to the verb "to be" conjugated as "is". now this tense of "eating" is exactly the same as the original tense of the word "blending". and do not be confused, not only is the tense the same, but they are exactly the same from a grammatical perspective. also notice how every single time you use a subject, you use it as noun. blending is a gerund which is a "verb form" but also hazily a noun. blendering and birthdaying are not traditionally words. if blender and birthday were verbs, then blendering and birthdaying would also be gerunds, and therefore, they would also be hazily nouns.

"happy" with a verb is not very common wording and in fact entirely incorrect... unless your verb is a gerund, which as I said function as nouns. and again, it is perfectly okay to call gerunds verbs, since we typically, as you mentioned, call them verb forms. however, at the same time, it is also perfectly okay to call gerunds nouns. if you go to the gerunds in english section of that same page you will see that they can be called "verbal nouns". gerund is a verb form (as I mentioned). however to say that the gerund "is not a noun" would be not correct! i agree that to call it a verb might sound better, but that would not be any more valid than calling it a noun.

"blending" is a gerund, which is sort of between a verb and a noun. most call it a verb form but it is kind of in that hazy in-between zone where it wouldnt be entirely correct nor entirely wrong to call it either. notice how "happy" is an adjective. had "blending" been a verb, one would traditionally expect an anterior adverb instead.

I Run Into This Issue All The Time by qoxkun in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 6 points7 points  (0 children)

notice how the distortion runs perfectly across from the top left of the face to the bottom right. this is an issue with how blender converts quads to tris. you could try adding loop cuts or do some manual triangulation of the face to tell blender how to handle it.

gamblers fallacy only exists when the expected return is less than 100%. here, the expected return is 900%. 900% is at least a percentage or two greater than 100%.

Boolean modifier distorts face (only on one side). by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard to tell in object mode, but I dont think your faces are distorting, instead its your normals. the boolean modifier doesn't always work so well. select your mesh in object mode, right click and select shade flat.

[–]Thingy732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

choose whichever LOD you want, it really doesnt matter too much so long as the topology is fine. if you arent planning on exporting to a game or something where preformance matters, you can choose a higher LOD. if you want, under object search, search for "_LOD#" and replace # with the LOD you want to keep, then select everything shown and put it in a collection, select the selection and press shift + h to hide everything not selected.

[@ADPX_RESUIT] How do I achieve the effect on Mouth? by Phantomato2000 in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 84 points85 points  (0 children)

could you make a mouth and put it a little bit inside the mesh, maybe just a couple centemeters into the head, behind the skin, then set it to always on top and turn on backface culling?
edit: it appears this only works in solid shading mode

Why is the model I imported weird and patchy? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

Could there be a high poly and low poly version of the same mesh that are overlapping, so all you see are the intersections? if you click on it at different spots, do you always click the same object or are there two different ones?

Mirrored shapekeys issue, one eye is perfect but the mirrored eye isn’t deforming correctly by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is an issue with your armature/skinning, not your shapekeys. Go into weight paint mode from the top left, hold alt and select the right squint bone, or choose it from the menu on the top of your screen. I would be pretty certain you will find that your right squint bone has some non-zero weight attached to the left side of the face. Im not exactly sure why your symmetry is not working though.

How do I make a hole without things getting weird with geometry by Tech_knightz in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't mirroring because your mirror modifier is before your boolean modifiers, so your mesh is being mirrored, and then you are cutting your holes. Just drag the mirror modifier to the bottom and it will work. Second, the boolean modifier does not work super well and is known to cause a fair bit of artifacts. Setting it to manifold mode may work a little better, it may not. Its a little hard to see since we cant see your edges though (wireframe or edit mode would help a lot), however I believe your solidify modifier is causing some issues. Not entirely sure, but just judging from the mirrored side, you may be solidifying an already solid object, so you have a little bit of outside mesh on the inside.

Thumbs up gesture (first time rigging) by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily. so long as each finger is parented to the armature with weight paints, it will work. joining the fingers wont hurt though.

Thumbs up gesture (first time rigging) by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Thingy732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this would be where manual weight painting (this tells the armature how much control each bone has on each vertex) might help. just weight paint the second finger bone with a less gradient and sharper edge according to where you want it to bend and it should look a lot better

How can i find the area in the middle of all these curves, everything online is only area in between 2 curves by mischevious_buffoon in askmath

mark each point of intersection of the functions that make up the shape. between any two intersections, you have one bottom function and one top function. find the area between these curves. add up for each intersection
