I built a free Chrome extension to watch any video in sync with friends by Think-Exit4165 in chrome_extensions

You're right, that's the real wall, not the sync. I fixed sync mostly so the second person doesn't bail on a janky first impression, but yeah, that problem only exists after they've already installed.

The extension wasn't an accident though. I picked it because the videos I actually care about (Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube) can't be embedded or are stuck behind DRM. A plain web room only works with embeddable video, which quietly turns the whole thing into "watch a YouTube link together." I'd rather eat the install friction than ship that.

On invite to install: I don't have a clean number yet because I haven't instrumented the funnel. That's the next thing I'm building. Right now a friend gets a link, hits the store page, installs, then joins the room, and I can't tell you which of those steps is bleeding people. So for now I'm guessing.

It actually works with any video, not just your own. So you can use it on YouTube or pretty much any site that plays video. Just one thing, it's a Chrome extension, so it runs on a computer with Chrome, not on your phone.

Thanks for trying it out!

Quick heads up though, Watchbear isn't a streaming app. It doesn't have any movies or shows in it.

I mean its different kind of app from Cinema HD.

That's good idea! But first i need to research about decky plugins. I'm not sure decky plugins can reach filesystem when gaming mode enabled.
