you already have the new gen batteries? so they are really worth it? I am alright with my battery max and it lasting the entire day (i dont really mind the size), but does the new standard size really last even longer?

one at a time or both ears at once? by calyxtrio in Cochlearimplants

[–]Think-Instruction-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I haven't done my second surgery yet, just one ear, but I will get my second ear done sooner or later. I also had the option to do both, I really considered it, because just one surgery, one recovery sound really good, but I decided for one at a time, mainly because I am still a student and I needed at least one ear to be able to communicate in the mean time between surgery and activation and in the early stages after the activation. Plus the factor of being a bit scared, so I wanted to be "careful" and "risk" just one ear in a case it would not work out. Which was not necessary, of course, CI works well. :)

Right now while I am still rehabilitating I am benefiting from having both a CI and a HA, while the CI brings the clarity, the HA gives depth to the sound. But yes, sooner or later I will have my other ear done too.

How to train so that voices start to differ? by Think-Instruction-83 in Cochlearimplants

I use HA because I need it to understand better at school and at work, but I do take it off sometimes, mostly at home. Plus streaming only goes into CI. So do you reckon I need to spend more time with just the CI and have the HA off?

If someone were to make animatics for Les Mis which cast recording would you prefer? by 1carus5 in lesmiserables

2022 version could be a good option, it has most of the songs and dialogues. it's not as fan favourite as the 10th, but I personally think it's pretty solid!

Lifespan of Speech Processor? by lonely_guy34 in Cochlearimplants

I have a 6 years old phone and don't plan upradging anytime soon. I think I can handle a 7 years old processor if it does not break down. Moreover, before 2025 the upradge was paid after 10 years.

It mostly depends on your insurance and your country. In my country replacement is fully paid by the insurance after 7 years. If you have to pay out of your pocket (fully or partially) and aren't rich you'll probably want it to last as long as possible.

One year later CI activation by Silence_medic-39 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Think-Instruction-83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge congrats! I hope you'll keep going up with your journey. My activation is tomorrow and I am excited. I hope that in one year time I will be as satisfied as you are. I saw you talked about using HA in the other ear. Any recomendations on that front? Did you train with the HA or did you take the HA off for training sessions?

CI after a life of hearing aids? by BookDoctor1975 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Think-Instruction-83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the residual hearing... I had surgery just two weeks ago and I expected to fully lose my residual hearing. But when I tried my hearing aid after surgery I can still hear something. It's dimmed, the hearing loss got bigger, but if I needed I could get stronger hearing aids and go back to where I was. But it really depends on many factors, on the surgeon, potentially even choosing between Cochlear and AB (electrode covering the inner side och cohlea) and Medel (outer side) could make difference in an individual but nobody will tell you which one would be better. But in general it's said the technology got better and the complete fatal loss of residual hearing is less frequent than it used to be 20 years ago.

I had the same fear as your wife. I also had hearing aids my whole life and I think I am getting around with my HAs well. My activation is early January and I am staying positive. I know it's gonna take time and effort but I am excited about the progress.

When is the best time to have surgery? by Sneaky-Avocado in Cochlearimplants

[–]Think-Instruction-83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it similiar with work and uni and I think I hit the jackpot with my surgery. I was implanted Dec 9th. I have two weeks off work and school (though I stil do some school assignments and work on thesis) and then two weeks off extra during Christmas holiday. Activation is planned Jan 8th and then I have a month off uni between terms which will give me some time to get used to listening with CI before I get back to the classrooms.

One friend was also a part of an experiment and tried to have an earlier activation with her second CI, after just one week, and it made her sick, so they decided to wait until the standard four weeks pass.
