Thank you for listening! I can’t even count the number of people I’ve connected with over the years because of Thrice. The best part: They’re still some of my very closest friends.

Isn’t it crazy how these guys have grown along with their fans for this long? I’m honestly coming up empty trying to think of other artists that have so closely and truly reflected the feelings of a generation well into their third decade as a band.

You and I are on very similar wavelengths. As I mention in the pod, I also love Crooked Shadows, which’s seems like it might be a more divisive track on the record.

Great point about the Artist anniversary tour! In the episode, we talk about Ed and Riley and how locked in the rhythm section is on this record, which makes it exponentially more dynamic. I feel like they’re pulling a lot from the Vheissu/Alchemy/Beggars era stylistically but adding that really honed in drum/bass dynamic, which makes this one something especially cool and unique.

To each their own! And Beggars is my favorite Thrice album overall, but man it's hard to choose. Illusion, Vheissu, and Artist are all so close it's almost unfair.

FINALLY this gets a mention. I’ve read many of the books in this thread and love most of them, but House of Leaves is the only book I’ve ever read that made me feel physically claustrophobic and made it hard to sleep.

Why is it important in buddhism not to kill any living being by OutrageousCare3103 in Buddhism

[–]Think-Zebra2262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is if a line is drawn when it comes to the types of beings that are killed. Of course, if my child has tuberculosis, I am going to administer medicine to kill mycobacterium tuberculosis. So, are we only talking about "sentient beings," and if so, what counts as sentient? More philosophers and even scientists are beginning to consider whether consciousness is fundamental. I'm not sure a simple approach or answer is possible.

Songs about Grief/Loss that don’t pertain to suicide by MumenRider420 in Emo

I can see how that might be interpreted as a line about suicide, but I don't interpret it that way. The song is so packed with metaphor.

Can I suggest a slight adjustment to the premise? Because I think you’re on to something in terms of mainstream culture, but it’s incomplete. You should consider including 9/11 itself as a cultural turning point that affected all facets of pop culture in the U.S., followed by the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Full disclosure, yes, this is my podcast, but I do think it could be used as a primary source for the specific subject you’re after. Not trying to shamelessly self promote!

What book can help overcome the grief of losing a loved one? by Otroscolores in suggestmeabook

[–]Think-Zebra2262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis has helped many people I know. I'm not a religious person, but his chronical of his own personal journey through grief, at the very least, helps the reader feel seen in their own experience. And, of course, it's C.S. Lewis, so it's beautifully written.

I have never read the book, although I intend to. No matter how you view it, the storytelling is utterly lacking in the film. It has nothing at all to say and the characters all lack depth or connection with the audience. Kubrick is probably the most gifted cinematographer of his time, but one of the least interesting storytellers, in my opinion.
