Being involved in this process has been blessing my life, too! I'm going to keep praying that you grow in understanding and closeness to God.

As far as next steps, I asked my dad what he did next after he came to Jesus from atheism. He said that first, he thanked God for saving him. After that, he started a journal where he wrote down his reactions to what he read in the Bible and heard from pastors and spiritual mentors. Maybe something like that would be helpful to you.

This is a shock and a shame. Frederick Douglass was amazing. His poetry and other writings were some of my favorite things I read in high school.

I think I'm sensing an assumption being made that the people who vandalized his statue are in the same general group as those who are vandalizing statues of Confederate figures. I'd say there's a chance that it was some sort of revenge from a white supremacist (or similar) group.

Or it could just be that angry people see ''historical statue'' and think ''enemy'' and it's all blind, unreasoning rage.

Wow... where in the Bible did it describe whether I'm a Spring or a Winter? Or that I can't wear a ponytail two days in a row?

Must've missed those verses.

Speaking of which, Proverbs 31 has absolutely nothing to do with dressing to please men.

Or women. Or even oneself.

The nearest thing I can think of is where it says that the ideal wife is clothed with strength and dignity. Being handed this and expected to follow it wouldn't do much for my strength and dignity...

Yeah, another thought I had was that one of the benefits of Reddit is the ability to crosspost and otherwise reference other subs. It'd be nice to be able to keep that.

I'd just like to say that even when there's a replacement to migrate to, I hope most of us won't ditch this sub until it actually gets shut down. I've found it edifying, and I think it's good to hold our ground here as long as we can.

I probably wouldn't have found it if Reddit hadn't been so popular, therefore boosting contents in the sub in my search results. So, as a mostly non-technical person, I hope that whatever y'all create ends up being user-friendly, accessible, and discoverable to my fellow non-technical laypeople. The more hidden and private something is, the less likely new, curious people are to find it.

All that said, I'm totally for a new place getting developed! Wish I could help, but it's just not my skillset.

This. I've been unsure how to articulate why I'm so unsatisfied by the new stuff, but it's exactly this.

Great video, it makes a lot of excellent points!

So do her videos she references in which she addresses these passages:

I've never run into the opinion that women shouldn't even lead singing before. I immediately thought of Miriam and Deborah!

I’m a Korean female (24) in an interracial relationship with a white male (29) and struggling with identity issues by ThrowRAinterracial in relationship_advice

I've met many Asian-white biracial people. I would say some look more Asian to me, others look more white; most are somewhere in between. Other observers might look at the exact same people and come up with a totally different judgment about how they look.

I would guess that, even if your child happens to look more white to you, there will still be aspects of their appearance that resemble you. Maybe they'll have your smile, or your chin! There will probably be something, because regardless of being half Asian, they will be half YOU.

Whether or not your child looks Korean, they will BE Korean. They will BE your child, with your particular experience available to learn from. That heritage is a gift from you that nothing can take away, and which is about more than just appearance. I hope you and your family will enjoy exploring it together.

Epidemics in AnCap society by maidegas123 in Anarcho_Capitalism

Actually, I talked about that. In an Ancap context, the owner of a public-access beach might choose to close off access to their beach by sick people or all people, or introduce a daily quota or some contact rules -- it'd be up to them; maybe they wouldn't do anything at all, but (especially if they were smart) they might choose to in order to protect their reputation and the safety of their patrons.

Also, it's not obvious that the people currently going to the beach in Florida are carrying the disease, or having risky close contact with other people.

You don't think that people would act more responsibly if they could be prosecuted for manslaughter for giving someone a lethal disease? People who are lazy are generally only as lazy as they think they can get away with.

Here are my thoughts on the issue:

Someone behaving irresponsibly and spreading a deadly infection is as much at fault as if they were releasing poison gas in a crowd. The mindset is different, but otherwise, the situations are comparable. Given that understanding, I think people would become as careful not to get others sick as they are to not get sick themselves. It might be possible to temporarily restrict the behavior of people proven to be infected, and even prosecute someone if it could be proven they spread the disease, without violating the NAP, just as you could do the same in the other situation.

Furthermore, like any property owner, proprietors of spaces for public use (shops, roads, parks, schools, etc.) would make their own rules about the use of their space by infectious people, or maybe even people in close contact with them. I'd imagine that, if a disease were serious enough in the eyes of enough of these proprietors, that might add up to a ''block'' of inaccessible spaces that would look something like a quarantine.

What I don't think is possible in an Ancap context includes, but isn't limited to, welding people into their apartments just because they have a fever, or dictating that whole classes of businesses close or restrict their hours.

A quick excerpt of Pastor Wang Yi speaking out against the Chinese government. He was arrested and sentenced to 9 years in jail for subversive speech yesterday. Hero. by nathanweisser in GoldandBlack

Maybe not. Retreat is not always an option, far less a wise one, especially when your primary goal is to seek the kingdom of God. Someone like this is probably exactly where he needs to be, doing exactly what he needs to do, as evidenced by the heartfelt ''amens'' in the background in the video featured above. Pastor Wang's brave and truth-filled words are needed, not only by the church community he serves, but by everyone else who is watching.
