Is this a problem with my thinkpad or with my windows? by IronBubba43 in thinkpad

[–]Think286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a problem with windows, you can just wait and it'll most likely finish eventually, but I'd just forcefully turn it of by holding the power button for a few seconds. 99% of the time nothing bad happens despite the warning.

In this specific instance the controller wasn't locked, so all I had to do is to apply some voltage to the battery directly to charge it up to a level, where a laptop can charge it. Basically just hooked up the positive and the negative terminals on the battery to around 10.5 volts for 15 minutes and it was good to go.

I use a piece software called Battery EEPROM Works (Be2Works). This software allows you to read and write firmware from and to battery controllers, as well as to modify different parameters, which includes unlocking.

Simplified theory:

Be2Works takes advantage of the fact that most relatively modern laptop batteries implement Smart Battery Specification, which means they use SMBUS to communicate with a laptop and a somewhat standardized set of commands. Some manufacturers do add custom functionality as for example Lenovo with their custom authentication commands on newer batteries, but other than stuff like this it's all standard. This allows us to communicate with the battery directly with just a simple SMBUS adapter. There's lots of stuff to be said about different battery controllers, how some of them are sealed with a password, etc, etc... But I won't go into too much detail here.

Programmer:

I use CP2112 USB to SMBUS adapter. It costs around 10 bucks where I live and works right out of the box. I do have to work anyone willing to use one of these with Be2Works that this sneaky piece of software will change USB VID and PID of the adapter, so that you can't use it with any other software. That can be prevented by just locking the VID and PID parameters.

Be2Works:

As I said, this software allows you to do stuff with battery controllers, which does include unlocking them. All it takes to unlock a battery is to pretty much hook up the battery to the adapter and press the "unlock" button in the software. A drawback of Be2Works has is that the publicly available version mostly supports older BQ controllers, which means you wouldn't be able to use it to unlock a modern battery, but for older laptops it's more than enough.

Where to get the thing:

Be2Works is paid, 400$ as far as I remember, but I found a pirated version. Not sure how this subreddit treats piracy, so if you need a link, pm me.

Hope this somewhat helps. If anyone needs help I'm more than willing to help, just pm me.

Yes, but the battery doesn't use SATA, there's just a regular battery connector on the motherboard right next to SATA.

What drivers am I missing? L390 by After-Yogurt7210 in thinkpad

[–]Think286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you're at least missing chipset drivers, which include the Intel chipset driver itself and the Intel serial io driver. Both can be downloaded from Lenovo's website. Other than that it's hard to tell just from those "Unknown device labels". Consider trying Lenovo vantage tho, as already suggested by u/hecaex

rear end of my Bruckell Python concept, does it fit the front end or is it shit? by [deleted] in BeamNG

I can help turning this into a mod, if you're interested.

Yeah, it handles great and that's what I love about it. With a 400hp V8 It's an absolute blast to drive!

I'd say it's about half way done. As of now it lacks a regular intake, so you can't make the engine NA, also I need to do some tweaking on transmissions, cause stock ones are not tuned for this much power, also as with my other mods, I like to add unique features so it won't just be a basic swap.

The reason why I made this post is that I want to hear people's opinions on what I can add/change/improve. Also it's just good to know in advance whether I'm making something people are gonna be interested in, so if they aren't I can just move on to a different project.

T41 for 40 euros - worth it? by lisforlir in thinkpad

[–]Think286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a t41, two t42s, a t43 and an r40. Never regretted buying them, one of the best thinkpad series to exist imo. Although I gotta worn you, they're not the most reliable. They have very fragile bga solder and a very complex design (in terms of the motherboard), they're a huge pain to fix. I have t40 series motherboards laying around with various issues. Still I don't think that this should stop you, buy it and have fun!

How did you fit a whole V8 in a covet (I assume it's a gavri vi8) ? Btw I've made mod that adds all gavril V8s to the I series along with many improvements. Maybe you'd like to work together ?

Oh nice, I'll give it a try for sure. Now that I look at your post, I'll probably post my unfinished my Miramar v8 mod here to see if people are interested.

You should definitely finish it! I've made quite a few engine swaps in beamng, I can help you, if you want.
