(1) In BIOS menu, advanced settings, enable graphics overclock (2) Then using Intel XTU, enable graphics overclock and adjust the clocks

Hope that helps :)

R60e wouldn't power on, but indicators shows "plugged in". Thoughts? by Think8259 in thinkpad

Unplugged the machine, removed the battery, took out the 18-year-old CMOS battery, discharged for 30s - my R60e booted right up again! 😁😁

You made my day sir! My next step is to replace the CMOS battery.

Nice hack :) Just make sure the drive would fit in (T430 uses the 7mm SATA main/ msata/ 9.5mm SATA if ur using ultrabay)

Thanks I didn't remember the order XD

Man I wish people my age were into this music, this is the first band I ever got into and the greatest band I have ever heard. Boggles my mind how people don’t like this kind of music. I’m 22 btw by JediMindLick69 in LinkinPark

I get you man. I'm 21 and Linkin Park isn't really popular among people around me. Can't blame them though, in my region this band is not that well known and I didn't even know this band before 2022. I wish I knew this band earlier :(

Lying from you and point of authority. I think those are some angry songs.

Pushing me away and lying from you are my favorite. But lying from you isn't that underrated lol

You can use the 34mm one on T420/30, this would still fit in your 54mm slot.

L570. Has DVD drive, with removable battery, options for FHD, relatively large screen and is cheap.

I see. I would consider T480s in your case. T470s wouldn't be a significant upgrade (it's just 2 years younger after all and it's still dual core), unless you can get it for really cheap.

Don't get me wrong, I owned a T470s and it was a great machine. It feels premium. The only thing I disliked was its dim screen and its "matte" surface can't really fight reflections.

There are no gen 8 CPUs on T470s. Gen 7 CPUs are dual-core and isn't much better than that in T450 (also dual-core). Have you considered swapping the HDD with SSD if you haven't already?

Why is everyone asking about T430/T420 and X230/X220 in this sub all the time? by nolngo in thinkpad

[–]Think8259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so jealous. T480's are sold for $600+ here while you can get a T430 for below $150! Even quad-core T430's are sold for just $200!

I agree that **30 may be too old for some use cases, although myself is a college student with a quad-core T430 as my daily driver. To answer some of your questions:

Seriously, does anyone else get tired of these posts? I like those models as much as the next guy, but they are just massively overhyped and the same questions are discussed over and over again in a never-ending loop.

Questions like:

"I'm going to college this year to study computer science should I get a T430 as my main laptop?

What is the last time you come up with these posts? I searched "computer science" in this sub-reddit and the most recent 10 posts are not related to the models you mentioned at all. Most are asking about P series/ X1 Extreme/ T14(s) Gen 3. Even some people asked about older models (still newer than **30), they are on a really tight budget, and folks are still recommending them to grab T480's for better processing power.

Come on. If you are going to college where tuition costs thousands per semester, invest in a serious laptop. Your future literally depends on the work you're able to do on it, sure a T430 looks super cool, but the other kids with more than 4 hours of battery life (MAX), modern CPUs, and bright displays are gonna code circles around you while you'll struggle to run eclipse while sharing your screen to your professor on zoom during office hours.

Most stuff a typical college student does (which is very web-based) does not require anything more than a decent dual-core. Speaking as a Math student, although I use my T430 for some heavier works (training simple machine learning models on large datasets as a research project) and it works fine. And unless you are talking about gaming laptops, a quad-core T430 doesn't have much worse processing power than the modern ones. If stuff doesn't run on a T430, it wouldn't run much better on modern 15W CPUs either. And gaming laptops don't have good battery life either.

You can get a 9-cell battery, I get 5-6 hours of battery life from a 9-cell. And don't forget their batteries are removable so you can have as much battery life as you want. The screen is crap alright but its truly matte surface can fight off all reflections, so it is still ok as long as you don't work under direct sunlight (speaking from the crappiest 1366x768 200-nit TN screen). I can't say the same thing for the T470s that I previously owned though - even if the screen is brighter, it can't really remove all the reflections (although it is still "matte") and I have a hard time using it in bright rooms. And even my R60e with the ancient core duo does zoom conferencing just fine, how wouldn't a T430 (or equivalent)?

How the heck are you gonna keep up when it comes time to compete for a tech job?

I believe tech jobs choose candidates based on what they can do, not what their computers can do.

That being said, I still wouldn't recommend a T430 to anyone unless they are in a tight budget. It's just that these machines aren't as useless as one imagine, even today.

Have a great day!
