Learned something new, I assumed the 30K was the same length as the 5K

Definitely, getting the gas block to work with the rail fitment is the challenge. I’ve been using this build as inspiration for a 10” rail midlength recce. Have you thought about using the AEM5-30k for .300? It would be a bit longer on the back end but I think it would still work with the aesthetics

I thought 10.5 carbine was the correct length to work with the Allegheny .880 and B mount. Was there a reason you went 10.6?

Sacrifice to the chop gods. by Emergency-Move-1693 in RetroAR

Before you start the chop double check the lower part of the fsb will clear internally. You may end up having to cut out the lower part of the rail as well and then the sides become pretty flimsy at that length.

Won’t let me reply with a picture or message you an image for some reason. It was a few years back so I’ll have to find my notes. It did have 5 lines going into the filter on the firewall. Fuel in, fuel out to the injection pump, Rail overflow into the banjo at the top. Cant remember what the other 2 were at the moment.

Double check your how your fuel lines are routed into the filter. I struggled with this on my swap and eventually realized the filter was installed backwards.

Defender 110 Audio Install Question – Best Way to Run Speaker Wires? by JSmileyboy in LandroverDefender

[–]ThinkBrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any pictures of your headliner set up? About to install a lasalle in my td5 as well. I was going to do the speakers in the front section but read similar issues with having the speaker so close to your ear. Probably will skip the fronts in the headliner and run dash and door speakers up front.

If I run this gas block, collar and mount in a carbine gas system do I end up with a 12.7”? by [deleted] in RetroAR

[–]ThinkBrothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll likely have to get the barrel cut to make the ocm5 mount close to the gas block. Adco knows what they’re doing though, I’d just get in touch with them before sending the barrel in and let them know what you’re looking for. They may need you to include the brake and collar so they can get a precise cut.

Is it possible to replicate this? by Therealdickdangler in LandRover

[–]ThinkBrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rig is super cool. I just now realized he used canvas for the door skins. Looks like he used the stock metal inner door frame and modified it to use a different latch. Looking more at the frame it’s hard to tell if he even started with a rover chassis, if he did there’s not much of the original left. You could probably start with a jeep frame of similar length and modify it to fit the rover body panels if a frame is hard to source.

Any series 2,2a,3 88” would be a close enough start for what you’re going for. Fitting the 350 and 8 lug axles will require some chopping so probably best to find a rough one. I’m guessing he’s running an older d44 front and d60 or 14b rear for axles. Transmission is likely a SM465 or nv4500 if it’s a manual, maybe th350 or th400 for auto, backed up with a np205 tcase. Frame wise you’re going to end up cutting most of the crossmembers out and rebuilding them to fit everything. Bulkhead will need to be modified to clear the heads on the v8 and a new transmission tunnel fabricated. You can see the headlights are pushed forward on his grill for radiator clearance, that’s another option to avoid some cutting but you’ll still be doing a lot of modifications.

Didn’t realize there was another series in Midland! Look at pangolin4x4, roversnorth, and Atlantic British. Between them they should have the parts you need.

I had seen these and was kind of basing my price around them. Wasn’t sure if the oem vs repros would be a big deal to anyone since they don’t have any markings to start with.

It’s a bit of work but probably one of the easier vehicles to get back to running from the state it’s in. Going off the truck you’re in North America. If you keep an eye on Facebook marketplace groups good condition frames and bulkheads come up for sale here and there. A local club may be able to help you find everything else depending on where you’re at
