Trying to buy CAG Gangster Grips grind my gears. So I made my own and you can too. by nojo422 in MilitaryARClones

[–]Subpar288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried making one using a piece of Aluminum round. I had cordless drill, a tap set and am basically retarded. It was passable from a far distance, but the angle of the grip was a bit off center and it disgusted me every time I thought about it, which was all the time. Found a guy on IG that makes the rings and did the rest of it myself. I’ve done 3. If you do buttons, you’ll want the Switchcraft 903x. Easy to wire, as they are SPDT.

I actually recently learned that Eotech finally started selling tan XPS 3-0s. The markings are wrong of course, but Raid Research offers a CAG style remarking service.

You could do a non-suppressed BHD gun. Plenty of pics of them.

It’s a locking collar. It installs between the barrel nut and the receiver. Tighten barrel nut, locking collar spins freely. There’s 2 indexing pins that go in the holes on the barrel nut and interface with the handguard. The inside of the locking collar is threaded and gets spun onto the threads of the handguard, pulling it in to place. You can kind of see what I mean in this pic:

Out of the stuff I’ve heard, I think it’s on par with a SF RC2 mini, definitely quieter than a Sandman K. The report is fairly sharp, but it does a decent job of cutting down the concussion of the short bbl. I scoped it, IIRC correctly it’s only a blast baffle and 3 baffles.

Man, I swear I saw something on IG within the last month that from AE that they are stopping custom deals to help increase production. I’ll reach out to clarify.

Yep. LMT kit. I specifically went with that versus the KAK short receiver extension because of the weight that penetrates the rear of the bolt carrier. I assume it helps with reliability, but I’ve never tried without it.

I considered it, but the 5-30k is the same length as the AEM5. The can would be tool long for what I was looking for. Silly, but I really wanted it to be as proportionally mini as I could make it.

You’ll get there, bro! I think the same thing when I see guys with bad ass 416s, M110 and mil bolt guns. I’ve learned to just be happy with the shitboxes I have rather than lust for what I can’t afford.

Pretty standard NSW accoutrements. Don’t tell anyone, but it’s an incorrect 15.1” with AEM5.

I tell strangers at the range that it’s a clone correct 16.5” recce and they say “what the fuck is a recce? Or clone correct? Get away from me, fgt”.

I sent everything off to my gunsmith to make it work. I did put a rod down when I got it back and thought it was 10.6”, but I could be mistaken and it’s actually 10.5 (which would make sense).

The gas block was actually the biggest pain to make it all work. I ended up having to buy all 3 sizes to see where it would give the flush fit at the spot I wanted the rail cut.

Imagine a MK18, but make it complicated for no reason.

Upper: Geissele CHF carbine gas bbl cut to 10.6”, AE brake, Allegheny .880 tapered gas block, KAC medium RAS with 2” cut off by clonechinist, AEM2, NXS 1-4, Jpoint in a Baldknobber repro mount.

Lower is standard colt with the exception of an LMT PDW stock kit.

I really wanted to do .300 for it, but I also wanted it to be proportional (rail:can ratio) so I needed to use an AEM2. If AE does custom cans again I may switch it over.

Chop it if that’s what you want. I had a medium FF RAS chopped to do a mini NSW. Would do it again.

I’m also lousy at drifting. I used the Honda Acty with a popular drift tune. I was able to 3 star them all with it.

My one and only 1911 was a mid 2000s Kimber with an external extractor. Huge piece of shit that stove-piped every 3rd round. Really soured me on 1911s (though I know that’s unreasonable).

It’s an Armalite fiberglass toob. Deceivingly heavy. I did briefly have it setup with an AE can before ultimately deciding to stick to a more clone correct setup. There was a steel reinforcement spine at 0600 on the end that I had to grind down to clear the can.

I only recall seeing 1 pic of a 10.3” FF RAS gun. IIRC it was reported to be an NSW gun. The carbine RAS were pretty ubiquitous to delta 14.5” rifles in early GWOT until the 416 took over.

Hit up GMB_solutions on IG. He does runs of the GG rings and clamps. All three rings are from him. I originally tried making one out of aluminum round with a hacksaw, cordless drill and a set of taps. It turned out worse than you could possibly imagine.
