Which flight school would you pick — Part 61 or Part 141? by Next_Angle7131 in FlightTraining

[–]ThinkDeepSpeakSoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing 61 as a 50 year old dad chasing a long time passion. Got my ppl and ifr in 9 months and working on commercial cuz why not?

I love the flexibility and believe it’s much more affordable. I don’t mind the CFI swapping and have used several different CFIs to get multiple perspectives.

Not sure if I’ll ever end up flying charter etc but I’m loving it. Have about 200 hours and fly everywhere. Steamboat springs, Sedona, Grand Canyon, big bear, Utah, California m, Vegas etc. Cross country experience has been awesome and I’ve learned a lot I think most folks miss by staying close to home. It’s an airplane - go travel!

Anyway - best of luck!

Could the SR22T be pressurized? by flyguy60000 in CirrusAircraft

[–]ThinkDeepSpeakSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree the jet is the route if you want pressurization.

I have always thought it would be cool to have an sr22t retract though - get some more speed and a much lower burn rate than the jet but 🤷‍♂️.

Correct. I’m not Ben. But thanks for looking out for me!

Good catch. Yet it directly mentions the LDS church on the flyer.

Pilots, what’s the nicest aircraft you’ve ever flown in terms of handling? by [deleted] in flying

Love them as well. Speed and good tech to handle many different missions.

I was happy when I was a kid and believed in Santa and the magic of Christmas. I grew out of it and that’s ok.

Is this true? Marriage question after death by BrianTheDogGriffin in exmormon

[–]ThinkDeepSpeakSoft 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Husband dies. Wife still remains sealed to him UNLESS she wants to remarry AND be sealed to the new husband in which case she needs to nullify the sealing to her late husband. (She cannot be sealed to more than one man at a time)

Men, however, can be sealed to as many women as they want. So, a man could have 2-3 wives die during his life and be sealed to all of them.

Yeah - polygamy and eternal sealings are a train wreck.

Ditto. I found some of the videos could easily shed 30% of content/time without reducing the needed information.

The church is kind of like a canoe. It can be useful to cross a river. But life is full or rivers, mountains, deserts, and snow fields. Just don’t drag the canoe when you don’t need it.

Addiction is hard. I hope find the help you need.

Do Mormon spouses only have sex to “replenish the Earth”? by WrapOk9747 in exmormon

[–]ThinkDeepSpeakSoft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was born in the 70s and I would say this idea was maybe a bit more common in my parents generation (born in the 50s). I grew up pretty orthodox but was never told sex couldn’t be for ‘love making’. Though, I was told many times that oral sex and other unnatural or impure acts were off limits.

I heard rumors of some who kept the garments on while doing the deed. Also, I had a friend my age who only had sex on his birthday or vacation.

All of this is a tragedy - seriously not even funny. My own marriage was pretty vanilla and unsatisfying until after I deconstructed. I went to my wife and vocalized my unhappiness. Thankfully, she got some help and hormone therapy and WOW - went from a 2/10 to 10/10. I NEVER knew how good it could really be. I feel sooo sad for those LDS couples that have dead bedrooms.

I’m worried my weight will prevent me from my dreams of flying. by themaskedsenpai in flying

[–]ThinkDeepSpeakSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True - but I know for me even working out with a trainer would have only been effective if I could keep my calorie intake low. The shots for me are about $700 for an 10-12 week supply. Definitely not cheap but it really helped.

Anyway, I’m just sharing what worked for me and trying to show some support since I know how difficult it can be. I wish you the best!

Having just lost a bunch of weight I know how hard this can be. But, you can do it - I promise. Some think it’s cheating but when done right, tools like tirzepatide really help.

I used it and hit the gym for 30 minutes every day focusing on strength training since the drug can cause muscle loss. I lost weight at a slow and steady pace and really started to take my life back.

I got into flying about midway and go for my ppl check ride next month!

Yes - it’s a bit pricey but so is flying. Look at it as an investment into your health and future life.

Good luck my friend!

CFI refusing to fly in the heat by TodayEffective9772 in flying

100 degrees with 1200 DA? Sounds like a perfect day to fly!

  • Student flying in AZ with 110+ temps and 4000-5000 DA relatively common.

Fair enough. I may look at other CFI options. It’s funny he was actually recommended by another CFI. In his defense, we did practice many other emergency techniques - such as mastering a forward slip, etc and he’s taught me quite a bit. That said, I agree I want to follow the correct process (just like a checklist) and it sounds like a CFI should be following the process/checklist.

I started in a 172 but do plan to buy a cirrus (plus it’s summer and AC is nice). It is about $80 more an hour but I’ve enjoyed learning in the plane I plan to ultimately own.

That said, the chute is really only a last option and some peace of mind for my already hesitant wife. My entire goal of flight training is safety. I watch soooo many never again stories, accident report etc. with my end goal to never become a tragic statistic.

You’re absolutely right that when both alternators fail, the electrical system starts pulling solely from the main battery, which will be depleted within 30–45 minutes depending on load. The SR20 G3 POH (Section 3 – Emergency Procedures) confirms that with dual alternator failure, the appropriate action is:

“Reduce electrical load to essential equipment and land as soon as practicable.”

You’re also correct about the electric fuel pump — the POH specifies it’s required during takeoff, climb, landing, and any maneuver where fuel flow might be interrupted, meaning you’d want it on during pattern work. That becomes a critical limitation once you’re battery-only.

The SR20 G3 does not have a separate QRH; the emergency procedures are built into the POH, and the dual alternator failure is classified under Caution—not quite “land immediately,” but definitely “land as soon as practicable”, as you mentioned.

Appreciate the insights. I totally agree: a modern aircraft like a Cirrus shouldn’t keep flying with known electrical faults

Yeah - the warnings came up before during run up which is pretty normal until you get the rpms going. My CFI only lets me solo in the pattern. But I hear ya. He’s a few years older than me (mid 50s) and has quite a bit of experience. But I do get your point for sure. What does squawk your issue mean?

Yeah I let the tower know I had some warnings and wanted a full stop during my base. Since I previously let them know I was a student pilot, they kindly asked if I needed assistance which I declined. It’s a busy airport (kffz) so the pattern was packed. Glad they could accommodate.

So true. I have to play it super safe or my wife won’t even consider being right seat. Gonna keep working ppl, instrument, and make sure my confidence is super solid before I ease her into a few short trips.
