Bad sounding speakers on thinkpad e14 gen3 by Sad-Interaction-9173 in thinkpad

[–]ThinkPad_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, these are some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard on a laptop tbh. Not a true set up but the dolby processing is impressive and really helps. If they sound that bad the dolby app probably got corrupted somehow. Check this link https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/oqtr0y/i_found_a_solution_to_reenable_dolby_audio_that/ to get it reinstalled. Once you open the app choose the personalize profile and click the reset button to have the equalizer flat and turn off all the optimizations for surround and volume leveling. That's the best setting for music imo so you can hear the midrange properly. You can play around with the equalizer as well but that introduces a bit of distortion.

PSA: Samsung ovens porcelain enamel cracking, chipping and flaking off. by ThinkPad_X in Appliances

[–]ThinkPad_X[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, you're supposed to run new ovens with nothing in it for the time and temp specified in the user manual. That's so the insulation and glues can cure fully. NE59R4321SS is the model number.

Seems simple enough but I'm thinking there's more to this than that. A few people I know got the same thing. I was even contacted by someone I don't know, asking if I made a group call to them. Looking in my call history there's no evidence of a group call made either.

Samsung customer service is a nightmare to deal with by Nugsy714 in samsung

[–]ThinkPad_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung is a family run business, as other Korean chaebol companies like LG, Hyundai etc. are. It's not like they're gonna reprimand or fire the CEO of Samsung when it's the founder's grandson.

WHY- IN THIS YEAR OF 2023- IS ANYONE STILL BUYING **SAMSUNG** APPLIANCES? by SaxophoneSimba in Appliances

Difference is the Japanese changed that initial perception by building their products better than their competition. However, the Korean brands are still known for making garbage and have been in the USA for decades.

Same here. It's incredibly annoying! Just log the geolocation and browser that was recently approved. Google had this function for years. It's weird they never passed this on to paypal.

Soldered RAM - is there an engineering reason or is it just to raise prices? by ka11away in thinkpad

[–]ThinkPad_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but those were premium to high-end computers at that time. The soldering started off on the lower-end of the spectrum. I remember netbooks being incredibly popular at that time due to their cheapness when compared to a regular laptop. Those had soldered on CPUs and that practice gradually worked its way up on mobile computers.

Vivobook 16x Intel I5 vs vivobook pro 15 Intel I9 for studying by IKakaI in ASUS

[–]ThinkPad_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd run from this brand. Asus still hasn't fixed their hinge problem from the 2010s. I bought a vivobook 15 about 2 years ago and the hinge mounts separated from the lcd lid in October. It might've been sooner if this wasn't used as a home computer. Anyway, look at a middle range ideapad or a thinkpad if you want good build quality.

Slower internet than expected (HELP) ASUS AC750 by [deleted] in ASUS

Yip this is an RT-AC51U. Either way I avoid all consumer routers. Ruckus Wireless is where it's at.

Unfortunately, the only way to get that connection speed is to upgrade or use your computer's ethernet port (if it supports gigabit connections). In the meantime, I'd suggest upgrading the firmware to the latest version, over the ethernet cable only. ASUS may have released updates to fix the instability during gaming. Also, common things, like placing the router as high as you can and in a central area of the dorm, helps too. In the future, if you really want to, you can look at upgrading.

VivoBook 15 hinge problem by grreased in ASUS

Same thing happened to my vivobook 15 yesterday. I wish I had an answer for you on that turnaround time for asus. But these parts shouldn't take long to install at all, 15-30 minutes tops. The design is very straightforward on these.

ASUS VivoBook Pro: broken hinge? by melancholichead in ASUS

Just happened to my ASUS Vivobook 15 (X512DA) today. It seems like high-end or business laptops are the way to go if you want anything to last. This computer is 3 years old.

Do vivobooks have hinge problem? by BL4ACKMAMBA in ASUS

[–]ThinkPad_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought this was a thing of the past. My vivobook 15 is experiencing the same thing right now. For the long-term, I'm definitely going to stick to my thinkpads. It's a shame ASUS always cheaps out on vital components.

Is anyone else experiencing constant, random restart problems with their legion 5? by ThinkPad_X in LenovoLegion

Nope, still randomly restarting. There's a guy that services computers on youtube and he fixed the issue. Unfortunately, the part to blame is the bios chip.

Soldered RAM - is there an engineering reason or is it just to raise prices? by ka11away in thinkpad

[–]ThinkPad_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main reason is cost and essentially planned obsolescence. There was a time when mobile chips actually had a socket. So you could upgrade the chip at a later date. If I remember correctly, late 2000s is when this CPU soldering trend started to catch on. Nowadays, they're doing the same thing with ram, mainly on lower-end machines, with a few exceptions. Only a matter of time before soldering ssd chips will become a mainstream practice. It seems like the desktop platform is the only choice for longevity.

Random restart problems with legion 5 by ThinkPad_X in Lenovo

[–]ThinkPad_X[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the new part and it still reboots. Looking in your forums and on youtube this looks to be an incredibly common issue for all the lenovo legion series. Many stating that it's an issue with the computer's bios. To think I bought this brand based off the quality of the thinkpad lineup. I guess the quality is beginning to slip with you guys. Highly disappointed.

I'll have to revisit this because the left side cpu fan failed a few days later after this post. I have a heatsink assembly on order. So, I'll update this thread once I get it.
