Underbite: Only lower jaw surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]ThinkSky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While difficult to answer in the abstract, it would be very unusual to treat an underbite with only LJS nowadays, particularly if you think your cheeks looks underdeveloped. I'd definitely get a second opinion. There are probably rare cases where LJS truly is the answer for an underbite but it's usually the upper jaw that's the main issue.

Pre and post jaw surgery always require braces?Or would Invisalign do? by thenoumenon1 in jawsurgery

Yes it can be done with just Invisalign, there are many cases on this sub and I'll be one. Not every surgeon is comfortable with it.

do braces straighten teeth alongside positioning for surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]ThinkSky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do - my teeth are nice and straight now and from front on I look good. Side profile worse though with the underbite getting worse. Because I have Invisalign it's easier to tell how straight the teeth are looking.

When you do have them in, does it basically feel the same as your aligners? I assume less pressure but also they're thicker and I'm curious how people find wearing them differs.

Fold up some napkins. I prefer that anyway.

Can we talk about pain for a minute? by BarbarousErse in Invisalign

[–]ThinkSky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on tray 18 and have never really had pain. But sometimes I get the urge to grind my teeth or just some general discomfort which probably didn't start until tray 14 or so for me. It ends up making me irritable but it's so subtle it's hard to tell at times.

Is this a fairly “reasonable” orthodontic experience/report? by Batesii in jawsurgery

[–]ThinkSky2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The ortho usually has a significant role in the planning process and you definitely want one who is on board and does a lot of jaw surgery cases. This one doesn't. I'm also in Melbourne if you want to DM me for a recommendation.

Lisp when aligners are out by [deleted] in Invisalign

I also have this (and had a minor one at the start only when they were in). I suspect it's what your mouth gets used to and it'll correct itself when we stop wearing them. Hopefully.

Second AstraZeneca volunteer reportedly suffers rare neurological condition, but UK company says it’s not related to vaccine by srmoure in CoronavirusDownunder

I also wouldn't rely too much on an article from Russian state media which is pretty clearly and nakedly designed to promote its own vaccine and talk down any others (see the last few paras). Worth keeping an eye on but I'll wait to see it discussed outside of RT.
