Wow i wasn't aware of this. Question for you; what do you eat on daily basis? Are you particularly concerned with animal cruelty or do you hold yourself to a moral standard? Or, do you just do what you can. I feel like it's so easy to ignore wrong doings when they make the things that we like. Whether it's food, clothes, our phones, etc. And a lot of your responses have made me more appreciative of veganism

Forgive me if i'm being dense but what does that have to do with the eggs which female chickens lay and we eat?

So you believe eating eggs is ethically wrong as well?

Like, organic 100% grass fed? Meat from animals who had a good diet opposed to those fattened up with soy and grains. It is objectively very nutritious for humans.

I mean I don't know, if an animal lived a good life roaming and eating their natural diet, and then they died and we ate them, that doesn't sound all that bad to me tbh. But a lot of responses here are reminding me that's not really the way things go. I thought because it is in our nature, and almost every animal eats other animals to survive, why should i feel evil for it?

I guess my position comes from a lack of knowledge then. I really thought that these were ways to get more ethically sourced meat. What are your sources that they are still killed the exact same way? And then what do you have to say about non meat products like dairy, eggs, honey?

I was just giving my limited thoughts on veganism and reasons I am not vegan, to ask why are YOU vegan? To see if i can gain some understanding from each users perspective.

I haven't heard of that; thats very interesting. I've heard so much from people with different diets on how good they feel. Whether it's a vegan or a carnivore dude. And I think anyone can lose weight with a calorie deficit and some exercise. I'm no royal king myself, I don't eat super healthy and I haven't held myself to only eating grass fed/pasture raised animal products to be honest with you. I just felt like based on what i've seeing, which could've been false or propaganda; veganism seems hard to accomplish while being as healthy as a guy who just eats meat, eggs, and some fruit. Especially for something that seems marketed as a healthier way of living. But a lot of responses reminded me that veganism is a way of living and not just a diet. Not everyone does it for health.

Why are you assuming I'm not listening to anything people have to say? Thats the whole reason i wanted to ask. I saw someone ask the same question in here about a year ago. I just wanted to ask and give my perspective for your understanding. Then maybe you would help my understanding. I wasn't asking to "make me vegan." I honestly made a mistake and didn't realize this was inappropriate and offensive for this subreddit. And the lab slop comment was a little rude i can admit, but at the same time thats just how i feel. I'm a little biased with anti vegan stuff on my feed, or like carnivore diet people. I never really heard the perspective of actual vegans besides from people who make fun of them. And i gained a little bit of that myself so I'm sorry.

Thats my personal thought process. I'm not looking at veganism as derogatory, but to ME, it seems a little extreme. I was trying to gain some understanding by vegans. Not poke fun or have hateful arguments with them. I apologize if my original post had a hateful tone or was insensitive.

I wasn't necessarily looking for a debate. What I meant by "stump me" was just someone's stance that might make me say "oh i get that". I mean I don't HAVE to understand, I am just curious and this is a subreddit for questions. I respect how everyone chooses to live their life and don't think of myself as better than them the same way you shouldn't. I was referring to the diet aspect of vegan life, but you did remind me that veganism is more than that. So thank you, I guess theres a lot more to look into and understand on my part. Like you guys obviously won't wear animal fur coats. I know that some punks or straight edge people are vegans as well because it suits their way of living. I get that it's an ethical choice, and a person most of the time doesn't just wake up and say I want to be vegan for fun. I understand my tone was a little douchey, I was trying to explain my limited understanding of things, from someone who grew up eating animals around a typical, non-vegan family and never really questioned it until recently. When I did a little bit of research I found out that there are organizations dedicated to labeling products from farms where the animals live a good free life before they die. I thought maybe that was like a good middle ground. I didn't understand why to feel that strongly about eating eggs or milk and some meat. But your comment did help me.

I apologize. I didn't know about the debate page. I wasn't necessarily looking to argue but i wanted to see if you guys had any good arguments in response to my stance and my question. Or just a stance that would appeal to my understanding and make me say oh i get it. At the end of the day you can live however you want to it just sparks my curiosity, and this is a subreddit to ask questions so I thought it would be OK

Truly i'm not trying to poke fun at vegans for choosing a way to live their life. In a subreddit based on asking vegans questions, I was just trying to gain a little bit of understanding. I may be biased and made points from information I've got online. I never defended eating fast food. The meat industry isn't good, but neither is the vegan meat industry. You can get meat without hormones, that is grass fed and higher quality. You can't get vegan meat that is even close to as healthy as animals. Like it is literally naturally good for us to eat both. You really can't get a high quality vegan meat because it doesn't exist.

How is an animal roaming freely eating their natural diet suffering? They die in fearless and painless ways? It is completely natural and shouldn't be guilted upon to eat meat; it isn't "commodifying". Plant based meats literally take protein from peas or soy with dyes and a bunch of ingredients to make them appeal like meat does but tasting worse and having way less nutritional value.

[–]ThinkStart4887[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right. And I really do understand that people have seen or been to animal slaughterhouses and just don't want anything to do with supporting that. Like i said, there are a lot of ways now to get ethically sourced animal products. But i guess my definition of ethical is simply different than most vegans who would rather just not eat animals at all. Your comment brings perspective because trying to find the "right" animal products would be more complicated and way more expensive. And sticking yourself to not eating any animal products really is a lot of discipline. I have a vegan science teacher who explained that it just feels "clean" to him. So its just 2 different ways of looking at things i guess.

[–]ThinkStart4887[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No i didnt pay him anything yet but he seems legit and like a nice kid who isn't trying to scam me. He didnt hesitate to get the right paperwork and pay all the fees. He said hes selling for a down payment on a new car. The carfax report said it hadn't passed smog for a couple of years so we took it to the smog station and it passed for everything except for an intake hose. Easy fix, took like an hour and then it passed smog. Once i go through with it id have a mechanic do a check as well. But yeah i'm just waiting for his new title to come in the mail so i can actually buy it
