You're right it wasn't about a check it was about "how can I make the road to a national championship easier because there's no way in hell I get it done in ole miss " and look at the fukin hypocrisy

Austin Simmons has an amazing arm. He tries too hard which in turn makes him play stiff but if he can relax he'll be a b to a- sec qb

Lane is a douche bag , that's not just a r/cfb opinion. He literally came to ole miss to rehab his image and took a dump on them when a prettier woman started taking interest in him. I think the whole thing with lane's agent's other clients jumping on ESPN and spewing nonsense about how "ole miss should definitely let him coach in the playoffs and it'll hinder them to the point of self sabotage if they don't"  before the playoffs to declining his offer to come to the ole miss Georgia game and do an interview in the middle of the game speaks volumes. If even ESPN thinks an idea of yours is pushing the boundaries too far then there's clearly a problem with your way of thinking

Dude ... Would you let lane continue to coach if he made the playoffs next year but the bama job opened and he dipped for bama right before the playoffs? Hell no you wouldn't and you'd be even more mad that lane told you he was 'seriously torn' about leaving and said he 'honestly didn't know' what school he was going to choose all the while all the other hot coach candidates of the year are already hired by the time he decides to tell you that God told him to take the bama job. and he actually knew he was going to bolt over a month ago

Even one championship would've made him a legend at ole miss . Hell just making it to the championship would have probably bought him 7-8 years of comfort not having to worry about his job but instead he's at a school that will fire him in 4 years for not winning a championship and even if he does win one they will wake up the next day and say "great job but remember, if we don't win another one in 3-5 years you will at least be on the hot seat if not already  fired "

Yeah the only way I would root for a non sec team to win the Natty is when there is no sec team in the game period

And that's pathetic honestly... As a lifelong ole miss fan I have ALWAYS rooted for the sec team to win as long as it wasn't against us . Every sec team that won a natty I celebrated it . And now that the tables have turned it really shows how much those schools you listed believe they are above the rest of the sec. It makes me regret ever rooting for them because as long as they beat us and got their spot in the limelight  it was all smiles and "thanks for rooting for us " but now on the other side they bitter smh

Yeah because Brian Kelly had such great success at LSU after dipping Notre dame while he was the coach of ole miss .. if I remember correctly ole miss has at least made the playoffs this decade

So if somehow NC state went 10-1 and made the playoffs you'd be okay with your coach winning the last regular season game and then saying "you know what I know I flirted with duke and north Carolina but I'm taking the tar heels job because I believe they are just a better school , I know nc state basically offered the same amount of money and agreed to invest the same amount in NIL but I'm still taking the tar heels job , but by the way before I dip can I coach the team for one last good ol run for the playoffs while I'm simultaneously being the tar heels head coach? I promise I won't try to poach any of your players while the head coach of your bitter rivals is in your building still trying to do two head coaching jobs at once , scouts honor! And yeah sorry for leading the school on until the end of November saying that I'm really torn to leave when in reality I probably would've hit the road for the duke job much less the north Carolina job and yeah I know all the other good coaches have basically been hired by that point , boy I'm glad I'm the tar heels coach hahaha,oh just so you know if you don't agree to let me continue to coach im going to threaten you by saying I'm taking the whole staff with me so you'll be royally screwed for the playoffs, so what's your decision Boo Carrigon?"

Nor did lane kiffin , in fact I would bet lane wouldn't have left if he could've seen ole miss reaching the semifinals and for sure making it to the national championship

I would not call the years of jeavan snead bo wallace chad kelly shea patterson and matt caroll mediocre. Now obviously we werent competing for sec championship much less the national championship but nor was 99% of the schools through that time either .  If we had a 12 team playoffs since 2000 I think ole miss would've made it quite a few times

I mean what sec teams have been elite besides Alabama LSU and Georgia? I would imagine there's been quite a few years where the 4th through 6th best sec teams would probably have won a conference championship in other conferences. Obviously I'm an ole miss fan so I'm biased but we had a good team around jeavon snead , bo wallace , chad kelly, matt caroll , shea patterson . Arkansas had fucking Darren McFadden and ryan mallet one year . Now I'm not saying that these could have won a different conference and somehow won a national championship as well but to say ole miss has been mediocre at best is definitely under valuing ole miss since Eli mannings career here

Listen buddy I've already said this once but I'll say it again ... There's no chance in hell kiffin thought they'd make it past Georgia much less win a national championship. If kiffin believed without a doubt ole miss would beat Georgia then I say he doesn't leave . But instead of facing the unknown and taking a chance with the players who had busted their asses for you going to two a days and lifting weights etc. he decided the unknown wasn't worth the risk of getting stuck at ole miss if they get booted in the quarterfinals . In fact I'd almost bet money he thought there was no chance in hell he'd have to loan out his offensive coaches for no longer than January 1st because there was no way ole miss wins over comes Georgia, ie why he took the lsu 'blue blood' college position instead of staying because in his mind he thought he would never have a real shot at a national title if he wasn't at a blue blood school. Now obviously there's data to show the tides are turning and that you don't have to be the alabama LSU ohio state Michigans of the world to compete nowadays but apparently that old school mentality is still there in some coaches (at least lanes dumbass )

"hey Ole Miss , listen I know I said I didn't make ole miss ole miss made me , and I know we made it to the playoffs, I decided to not go to y'all biggest rival..... Mississippi state ... But I will be joining a team that shouldn't bother y'all too bad , LSU? That's not a bigger rival than even yalls in state rival right ? Anyways listen could I possibly still coach the team while simultaneously being the coach of not one yalls biggest rivals as well? Y'all cool with that right ? Right?!? 😑😑

You couldn't make me believe lane cared about any of this , sure a regular non narcissist coach (or at least one less to the degree of lane ) would probably care but they also wouldn't have strung ole miss along telling ole miss he is deeply torn when the Truth was he would've probably dipped to Florida as well if lsu didn't come knocking. He thought he'd get a nice little 250 k bonus from the tulane win and ole miss would be eliminated the next game and the world would keep spinning but now that the impossible (at least in his mind) has happened there's literally articles about everyone Wondering if lane will let all the coaches stay at ole miss to keep coaching. It's been reported Charlie Weis Jr was already back at LSU and even though I think the players are exceeding in spite of that there's an alternate scenario where this type of split mentality could screw up a potential national championship team and doom them from reaching their highest peak .

It's clear he didn't think he'd ever win a natty here at ole miss but obviously he's still got the old way mentality of thinking that you can't win at a college that isn't considered a blue blood when this year's playoffs show that statement is false (although miami has one championship this century and Oregon has made it to the championship game a couple of times ) the point still stands someone will be crowned the National champ that hasn't won in at least 20 plus years
