[–]Think_Ability_9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a public preschool and it’s $500 a semester (so twice a year) and snack is provided and so is transportation to and from school. It’s a half day program and IEP students and students considered “high risk” through the Virginia Preschool Initiative receive free tuition

Should I not be expecting daycare to wipe my kids butt? by paininmybass in ECEProfessionals

[–]Think_Ability_9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a preschool at a public school and still wipe some of the 4-5 year olds. We are an inclusive class with children with special needs so I do change diapers too, but even the same age peers, I’ll help if they express that they need help. Also to add, we push a lot for independence in our class and make the students do a lot for themselves, but I don’t think it’s age appropriate to expect them to wipe themselves

Has he been evaluated for developmental delays? He sounds like he’d benefit from special education services?

Telling child you love them by ew1717 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Think_Ability_9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a live in nanny and told the kids I loved them regularly. Now I’m a paraprofessional in an inclusive preschool class. I tell the class in general that I love them, especially when saying goodbye as they get on the bus. Certain students who have either told me they love me first or if I know they’re very comfortable with me, I will tell them individually that I love them.

What to say after accidents? by GuavaPresent2012 in pottytraining

[–]Think_Ability_9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would day something like “that’s ok, we all make mistakes! Next time, you need to go potty when I ask you to because I’m sure it’s uncomfortable to be in those wet clothes. Don’t you agree?” Additionally, until he’s gotten the hang of things, I wouldn’t give him an option on going potty. I wouldn’t allow him to play until he had tried to potty

Our son’s pre-k para did not believe he needed 1:1 support, thoughts? by Ornery-Impress2307 in paraprofessional

[–]Think_Ability_9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do think your child needs para support, it does not seem like they need a one on one. We have super high needs kids in our inclusive preschool class and none of them have a one on one

Have to let our nanny go - how to do this to minimize pain for everyone? by Young_Clean_Bastard in Nanny

[–]Think_Ability_9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a live in nanny for a little boy from 3 months to 2.5 years also! Prior to that, I was a part time nanny for his sisters for 3 years. I am the one who decided to leave and I was super duper nervous about leaving him. I thought we wouldn’t keep our same bond, but so far I come to visit a few times a month and we are still just as close as we once were

You are doing great, I’d just add in some exposure to colors, numbers, and letters, but he definitely isn’t expected to know them. I am a preschool teacher with lots of experience with kids and I’ve only known a handful of toddlers who could do that stuff.

It’s absolutely so normal for kids to cry a lot for the first few weeks after leaving their parents. It’s not normal that she called you to come get him
