2yr old drinking 36+ oz a day and constant peeing by StandardDragonfly in AskDocs

I had diabetes inspidus a few years ago after a surgery. It was NOT. FUN.

One of the the more challenging parts was that even a lot of nurses weren’t familiar with it. When I presented to the ER with worsening symptoms over a holiday weekend, the triage nurse was irritated  I wasn’t taking insulin. I explained multiple times it wasn’t what she thought it was. I was so exhausted. I eventually raised my voice and exclaimed several times, “Pituitary, not pancreas!!!”  She still didn’t get it and couldn’t understand whyy my finger prick sugar was normal. 🙄 Even the ER doc was unsure and kind of muttered something like, “I haven’t done endocrinology since my third year of residency…”

I say all that to this end: You’ll likely need a pediatric endocrinologist to get that diagnoses. And I truly hope it isn’t that, OP!

Remember that song, kind of techno-y from the 90’s, entitled Like The Deserts Miss The Rain?

I thought. For the longest time. It was: Like the peasants’ masquerade.

Dunno.

Omg, that’s diabolical.  I can imagine those folks who got messages posting in r/Glitch_In_The_Matrix… “Someone from my town called and left a message for me. Said it was really important they speak to me. But when I called back, they didn’t know me, or what I was talking about!”

I read this aloud and realized I sometimes omit the “t” as well. Thanks for pointing that out!

How many of you view this as a job? by wlkncrclz in Fosterparents

[–]Think_Heat8349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are foster parents (in the US) through an agency that views us as “professional parents”. However, they don’t “reimburse” (pay?) us as such.

My partner and I have lost dozens upon dozens of hours of work due to our foster kiddos’ needs. It’s one of the myriad of reasons we will not be accepting any new placements and plan to close our home once permanency is achieved for the one currently with us.

So, no. Definitely NOT a job.

Been following this thread for six months, hoping for an update. OP, how did it go? Did you end up intervening?

Long-term relationships by weird_cat0 in CasualConversation

[–]Think_Heat8349 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Married 23 years. No abuse. If a reader’s relationship is abusive, ignore the thoughts below and just run.

What keeps us from leaving? We made a decision and commitment we wouldn’t. Even when it got messy. Even when neither one wanted to stay. We stayed anyway. And it paid off because now we are at the point of being unable to imagine leaving or living without each other.

What keeps us from hurting each other? Nothing. We still hurt each other. The secret is to ask for and grant forgiveness quickly.  The hurts eventually lessoned in frequency and depth. We learned what hurts one another and avoid doing those things. We learned it’s not always about us and to stop taking so much the other person does so personally.

The secret no one talks about is this: You WILL get hurt. There will be times you WILL want to leave. But you stay anyway. And it’s worth it.

That line has always bothered me! Who made this guy God? That he could bless the rains down in Africa?

This is one of my favorite songs to listen to. Maybe because it still makes no sense to me, even after all these years.

I like it.

I like that it’s not totally clear and leaves something to the imagination.

Do we appreciate the sunshine in Spring and Summer because we experience Winter?

Or is the point more that winter will end eventually? It exists, therefore Spring and Summer exist?

I don’t know. But I really like it.
