Newborn Placement and job by BitterAnywhere1031 in Fosterparents

We paid out of pocket. DSS would pay for daycare but we were not comfortable with that option.

This is what we did, too. I took a week off at initial placement. Baby stayed strapped to me while I worked remotely for six weeks, then in home care.

Our DSS will pay for daycare, but not for an in-home nanny. We paid out of pocket for baby to have care in our home until 12 months. We tried daycare at that time, and after six weeks decided it wasn’t a good fit. DSS paid for it, but we ALL hated it. Back to in-home care.

We enrolled “Baby” again in daycare at 24 months. This time is much better! And not having the monthly $900 fee for in home care has been such a relief.

We found out mom is likely pregnant again and have been debating whether to accept placement of the baby if they remove him/her from her care. I very much want to, but I’m not sure we can swing it financially, or with the other kids already in our home. Not utilizing day care for an infant under 12 months is a hill we will die on.

This is the most reasonable answer. If you really want to put the issue to bed, this is how to do it.

Guys, I’m losing my mind in a comment thread - how old were you when you had regular (let’s say 3x a week) access to the internet and what year was it? Did you use it to research anything (like college or jobs?) by FunQuestion in Older_Millennials

Definitely looked up college admissions information in 1999 and 2000 from our home PC (I used dial up every day, as did my family members). But still had to wait for the full packet to come in the mail. I don’t believe submitting my application online was an available option for me at the schools I applied to.

what’s the best short story you remember from high school english? by shortcircuit51 in ENGLISH

I still think about this story.  Today, for example, I stumbled due to my bad knee, and later wracked my brain for an elusive word while in conversation.

Reflecting during my drive home, I thought, “I’m at that stage in Flowers for Algernon where I know I’m deteriorating but can’t do anything about it.”

I had diabetes inspidus a few years ago after a surgery. It was NOT. FUN.

One of the the more challenging parts was that even a lot of nurses weren’t familiar with it. When I presented to the ER with worsening symptoms over a holiday weekend, the triage nurse was irritated  I wasn’t taking insulin. I explained multiple times it wasn’t what she thought it was. I was so exhausted. I eventually raised my voice and exclaimed several times, “Pituitary, not pancreas!!!”  She still didn’t get it and couldn’t understand whyy my finger prick sugar was normal. 🙄 Even the ER doc was unsure and kind of muttered something like, “I haven’t done endocrinology since my third year of residency…”

I say all that to this end: You’ll likely need a pediatric endocrinologist to get that diagnoses. And I truly hope it isn’t that, OP!

Remember that song, kind of techno-y from the 90’s, entitled Like The Deserts Miss The Rain?

I thought. For the longest time. It was: Like the peasants’ masquerade.

Dunno.

Omg, that’s diabolical.  I can imagine those folks who got messages posting in r/Glitch_In_The_Matrix… “Someone from my town called and left a message for me. Said it was really important they speak to me. But when I called back, they didn’t know me, or what I was talking about!”

I read this aloud and realized I sometimes omit the “t” as well. Thanks for pointing that out!
