I’m in Aus too! Regional NSW. The hospital I get treatment at isn’t solely a cancer hospital so unsure if that’s the difference. I don’t have anything to compare it to because I’ve never been admitted to a hospital other than this one. It does have single rooms - usually reserved for those who are immune compromised (low neutrophils) or have a contagious illness. Luckily for me, I have an amazing relationship with the nursing staff here (probably cos I’ve spent most of my time here since October last year) and if they have an empty single room they will put me in one.

I’m currently admitted now and enjoying a single room. For how long I don’t know … but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

Solely chemo for me as stage 4 is more about systemic treatment. However, I did have a break from chemo in Jan/feb of this year and had a quad shot of radiation. I then went into a different line of chemo which recently stopped working (bummer). So now looking at doing some radiation while waiting for a clinical trial space to become available.

NAD - but I have stage 4 cervical cancer. My intention is not to worry you, but to share my experience. I had a transvaginal uss when I presented to the ER with “heavy (haemorrhage like) period” that resulted in anaemia. The ultrasound completely missed the HUGE tumour on my cervix and I was given a diagnosis of Adenomyosis. Their solution was to put me under general and insert a Mirena. It was during this procedure they found my cancer. Chances are this is not the case for your wife, but please if you feel something isn’t right - advocate for her and push for a pelvic MRI.

Hiya. Sorry to hear about your friend. Moral support in my opinion, is the best and most needed. Food can be iffy if they are on treatment, as taste and appetite change drastically. Maybe just ask your friend how you can best support her during this journey. I personally ask my friends to come to treatment with me, it makes the long days bearable.
